It's already almost an hour since OP posted. Nothing on Skynews, BBC, CNN - and people from Iceland are saying this is false.
FUNNY ITS ALL OVER THE BBC NEWS HERE IN LONDON...TURN ON BBC WORLD NEWS;)
And I wonder why there is nothing on their website ;)
It is:
Icesave announces it is freezing it's customer's accounts.

It's Icesave, one bank and not whole Iceland as the title states. BBC is backtracking as was stated by the OP.
When I saw the title I thought whole Iceland has collapsed.
Well........a lot of the ice sheets are collapsing....does that count? Lol |

'Customers of the Icesave internet bank have been warned they will probably have to claim compensation for money held in their savings accounts.
The authorities in the UK are preparing for the bank's parent in Iceland, Landsbanki, to be declared insolvent.
The Icelandic government took control of the county's second biggest bank this morning to stop it collapsing.
Claims from Icesave's UK customers will be handled by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS).'

The main reason for this situation in Iceland is because of the unchecked expansion of the three major banks, growing to a size several times the GNP of Iceland. So when they are in trouble the whole country is reeling.
Iceland's other economic pillars and infrastructure are all strong and healthy. |

I am watching BBC America and the Iceland PM says that the government is saving the banking system. They have agreed with central bank to set the exchange rate at 175, which will shore up the Kronner. Whatever that means. |

i saw that segment on TV in the eastcoast around 3AM, i wish someone has the interview of that particular story
if the they played that segment for all of the americans to see, they would revolt!
they want to be bailed out by the US like all the other countries are??

Icesave says that it is not currently allowing customers to take money out of their accounts or to put in deposits.
This dismayed customer Mike Davis, 62, who has £75,000 in retirement savings locked up in an Icesave account until 25 October.
His daughter also has savings there and his partner, Pam Henson, 67, has £23,000 with the same bank.
The couple are getting married on 1 November, and Mr Davis, who lives in Gloucestershire, said he was "shaking with worry" when he heard about problems with Icesave.
"This cannot have come at a worse time. It is a pretty devastating blow," said Mr Davis, a landscape architect.
"I haven't slept for a couple of days. This was money put away for retirement."
He was expecting a long process of trying to recover savings and called for governments to guarantee 100% of savings.
