Suicide bomber kills at least 18 at Pakistani politician's home
Quote

ISLAMABAD -- A wave of violence from Islamic extremists against Pakistan's politicians intensified yesterday with a suicide bombing at the home of an opposition legislator that left at least 18 dead.

An attacker walked into an open meeting that member of parliament Rashid Akbar Nowani was holding in the courtyard of his home in the central town of Bhakkar, in Punjab province, and blew himself up amid a throng of about 200. Some reports put the death toll as high as 25, with 53 hurt, some critically. Mr. Nowani - from the conservative, mildly Islamist Pakistan Muslim League (N), party of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif - got away with minor injuries to his legs.

"Everything has turned black here," eyewitness Mohammad Ashraf told The Associated Press. "I am seeing body parts lying everywhere. There are many heads lying here. It is blood everywhere."

Within the past week, two political leaders from Awami National Party, which leads the regional government in the insurgency-plagued North West Frontier Province, were targeted. The assault against Mr. Nowani could signal a broadening of the militants' campaign of violence.

There was speculation that he was struck because he is from the minority Shia sect of Islam, which is despised by the Taliban.

The latest attack provided a further blow to the fragile democracy in Pakistan, which is struggling to cope with an Islamist insurgency and an economic crisis that has pushed the country to the brink of bankruptcy.

Pakistan's security forces are fighting a fierce battle with Taliban militants in Bajaur, a part of its Federally Administered Tribal Area (FATA) that runs along the Afghan border, and in Swat, a valley in the northwest, after efforts to seek peace deals with the extremists collapsed.

Afrasiab Khattak, a senior member of the ANP and the provincial "peace envoy," admitted that a new strategy was needed to tackle the militancy flowing out of FATA.

"FATA, unfortunately, is like Afghanistan was before Sept. 11th. It is totally controlled by militants," Mr. Khattak said. "As long as FATA is controlled by militants, it is very difficult to have stability in this province."

In September, the leader of the ANP, Asfandyar Wali Khan, narrowly escaped a suicide bombing at his home in NWFP which killed four, when a guard jumped on top of the attacker. Mr. Khan, along with his family, has now taken refuge inside the presidential palace in Islamabad. On Sunday, rockets were fired at the family home of NWFP chief minister Amir Haider Hoti, though no one was injured.

Late yesterday, the federal government, which was elected earlier this year after more than eight years of military rule, stepped up security for politicians, restricting their movements and announcing plans to put concrete barricades outside their homes.

On Sept. 20, a truck bomb at the Marriott hotel in Islamabad killed 55 people and appeared to signal a new phase in the campaign of violence unleashed last summer by Taliban and other extremist groups.

Blaming Afghan refugees for involvement in the violence, Pakistan has begun deporting thousands who had long settled in the Bajaur area back to Afghanistan.

The security crisis has pushed Pakistan into danger of default on its debt, as money has fled abroad and the currency plunged in value, hitting a new low against the dollar yesterday after the rating agency S&P downgraded the country further into junk territory.

Pakistan now has about eight weeks worth of foreign exchange reserves left and new president Asif Zardari has appealed for massive international financial support.

The stupidest thing people can do is to judge and not look at the history of how things came to be as they are.

And this is what you people are doing all the time.

You do not search for the cause of the illness, bust just for the symptoms.

And this is common for all western countries.

Interesting conversation here.

What is the deep insight that most people seem to be missing?

Why all the carnage?

What is the argument?

What is such a difference that causes people to end up blowing themselves up?

There is something really wrong here, to cause that kind of response. And it has been going on for a very long time.

What ever it is, I do not think that it is caused by
"other countries" involvement.
It's something much deeper that the Western world is not being told.

What is it? Blowing people up does not seem to
provide an answer.

They use really terror only for domination, yes they use extreme violence to dominate.

Are you telling me that all this bomb stuff going on everywhere ia all about who is going to be the top dog in some region of the earth?

I mean look at this:
"There was speculation that he was struck because he is from the minority Shia sect of Islam, which is despised by the Taliban."
So it seems all about islam and how it is read or something?
WHAT IS THE BIG COMPLAINT that all the people who are fighting have?
It seems like it has been going on for hundreds of years.

Brainstorming is a group creativity technique designed to generate a large number of ideas for the solution to a problem.

The method was first popularized in the late 1930s by Alex Faickney Osborn, an advertising executive and one of the founders of BBDO, in a book called Applied Imagination. Osborn proposed that groups could double their creative output by using the method of brainstorming.

the main thing to remeber is that bombing civilians over political differances has been a standard procedure among islamist..before modern bombs existed, the whole meeting area would have been raided and all would have ben killed then, the residence would have been looted, then torched...that is the history of settling disputes in the middleast..sacking each others villages is common.

Pakistan was founded with blood, because Mahatma Ghandi wanted an united India but the islamic people wanted an islamic sect dominated nation and did not want to be a part of a mainly Hindu dominated nation.
In that time many people died, they made big ethnic cleansing, the Pakistanis killed many Hindus and the Indian people killed many islamic people.

And you should know the whole conflcit ended at that point that the Indians build the nuclear bomb and soon the Pakistani had their own nuclear bomb.
Yes they worked hard to get the nuclear bomb, oh so great.
So this fuck sects is working, in fact is only about dominating, male dominating.

For that reason Mahatma Ghandi was killed by the radical Hindus.

So not always the West is guilty for that mess.

And just what happened to the billions the USA gave that country to fight the Taliban?

Gone the way of the wind into corrupt officials and military officers pockets.

Maybe when they get good and tired of all the murder and chaos, they will go after the extremists in the hills and drive them out of the country into Afghanistan where our special forces can do some target practice.

Killing the extremists and terrorists from both sides is the only way to get rid of them because they never stop.

The Pakistani leaders mistakenly thought they could negotiate with them, but they only see that as a sign of weakness and attack more and more boldly.
T

At the rate they are going, all of Pakistan will soon be in flames and in ruin.....and then will be the time to just go into those border hills and literally wipe them out.

Sound crass and murderous, but we put down mad, wild dogs all the time and these humans obviously qualify as mad, wild dogs.
