Just curious as to your opinion in how the above scenario with Obama winning would be any different in McCain won...

One of the things I am weighing in my own mind is how practical is it that Obama could actually get a constitutional amendment passed (to ban guns)....versus, the possibility of McCain dying in office and Palin becoming President. That woman appears to be a very dangerous fanatic to me - and I surely don't want her to be able to do things like....influence the next appointment to the SCOTUS if the need arises...
So basically, I am torn trying to determine the probabilities factor here!

my guess:
In order to buy this Commercial Paper, will the Fed pump billions into the money supply, thus causing inflation (or hyperinflation) and the destruction of the value of the dollar?
Is this correct or am I mistaken?
Wiemar was a complete collapse of the currency, eventually was replaced with the Reichsmark, are we looking at a similar situation with the dollar? |

well it doesn't sound like you understand monetarism or the life cycle of a "dollar" in the banking system.
We are in a deflationary spiral, printing money keeps the dollar from overheating. And it appears from all indications as if there is a shortage of money not a surplus despite all the new creative financing tricks the Fed is pulling.
If saving the world's finance apparatus is what you want this is the right way to do it. At least to get the credit markets flowing again.
I have no idea how they will keep them flowing tho....

The FED does not have an infinite capacity to print money because the people do not have an infinite capacity to repay the debt.
It took almost 250 years to accumulate 5 trillion in debt and that has now been doubled in the past 30 days.
There is no way for the population to repay 11 trillion dollars in debt and US treasuries are effectively now junk bonds. |

hoard cash, plant a garden, learn to live more simply. Maybe visit a third world nation to see how they make ends meet. It's cheap, and you will learn a bundle.
Hyperinflation and deflation aside neither is the end of the world. It's just the end of some of our illusions. |

They are buying the unsecured liabilities of bankrupt corporations, and the taxpayers are on the hook to pay.
This is illegal, so they structured what they call an SIV, to get around it....effectively now making up new laws as they go.
This is but one element of a massive money printing campaign and the bottom line is that the people cannot repay the debt, so the debt is no good. If the debt is no good then the currency is no good and there is a hyperinflationary spiral.
Look at Zimbabwe. They pursued this same monetary path. |

Gold Confiscation Act of 1933
The President passed an EXECUTIVE ORDER that mandated all gold coins in the country be turned in. Congress didn't order it. The President did. The same thing could be done to a class of guns. So called hunting and other "civilian" style weapons would be exempt...for now. It would be too much of a bite to ask every gun owner in the country to give up their guns. But assault weapons owners are a smaller percentage.
This would bypass Congress altogether and drop the share of credit/blame firmly on Obama's head. |

We owe more than half of the debt to the federal reserve itself. That half can be written off in dire straights, fuck em. The rest can be paid off with worthless dollars.
Google "we are all keynesians now" look for a Time magazine article (by that name)from the early 70's that describes the fact that we never intended to pay off the debt. And it describes why. Great read.
And then take a look around the globe at all the nations (including wiemar republic) who once had a currency collapse to nothing. They all just printed a new currency and started over.

The thing to do is to stay out of debt. Live inside your means. Doing this will cover the situation. Well, no big deal except that the new currency is always devalued relative to the old currency causing a hyperinflationary event. So your "paper wealth" is reduced by the amount of the devaluation, unless your wealth is in real assets. |
