well, do not forget one of natures best pain medicines, opiates. True, there is a dependency/addiction issue however, kidney stones aren't a long term pain. Effective pain relief can be achieved during the stones life w/o any dependent side effects. Unless there has been prior abuse.

If codeine bothers your tummy, try tramadol, hydrocodone or oxycodone. Sometimes one will upset the tummy where the other will not.
