Noticed that this tends to occur often before significant rainfall arrives. |

Interesting, and it is supposed to rain this afternoon/evening. |

Clear, blue sky to canopy in about 3 hours time.
Not really sure what is going on.
Cloud seeding?
Barium / ionic particle real-time 3-D terra-mapping?
Bio-warfare early warning and countermeasures exercise assessment.
Read quite a bit.
Looking up and simply observing based on weather and atmospheric conditions, flight patterns / formations, flight paths and approaches for international and domestic flights including the local airports, local trends in incidence of allergy / asthma exacerbations and other respiratory illness.
Bottom line:
The skies are very busy these days. |

BTW, we are both former Naval Officers trained to spot and observe aircraft. We know what we are observing right now.
I'm currently enlisted, sir. I'm glad you know how to spot aircraft, but am somewhat saddened that you don't understand contrail formation and persistence. I take it your degree wasn't in any of the physical sciences? Quoting: The Guy
Correct, I don't know a lot about chemtrails yet. I am relatively new to the Chemtrail discussion and when I was in the Navy we certainly never received any training on it or gave a second thought to contrails or chemtrails. These trails yesterday did persist for a very long time though and were relatively stationary. It was like nothing I have ever seen before. I am going to do some more research today and keep an eye out there.. Thanks for your input and help, shipmate!

Interesting post, thank you. Do you think it's normal for them to linger for hours though? The person who posted regarding an "X" in Georgia looked exactly like the "X" we saw here in DC, pretty strange coincidence wouldn't you say? The "X" was the same in size and appearance. Quoting: Something Other
As normal as rain or clear skies. It's just varying atmospheic conditions. If two aircraft follow non-parallel paths, then their contrails will make an "X." It's coincidence just like every soap bubble being spherical is a coincidence. He took his vorpal sword in hand:

Like I said, the conditions that favor formation and persistence of contrails often precede a cold font. He took his vorpal sword in hand:

Why does rain have to equal a cold front? |

You're about where I was about a year ago then. I did my research, and it all fits with what's known about contrails. At first I thought "chemtrails" might be some kind of radar shield, lol. Keep reading, and test everything against known facts. And please don't call me shipmate! He took his vorpal sword in hand:

Not necessarily. Neither does a cold front always mean rain. He took his vorpal sword in hand:

A chief calling, "Hey, shipmate!" usually means you're in trouble, lol. It's become somewhat annoying. There was an article in Navy Times last month about it. I knew how you meant it, though. He took his vorpal sword in hand:

Animations of a day or two of FAA air traffic data over CONUS... part of an art project.
Illustrates just how much air traffic there is. No wonder you get grids and a few "X" patterns here and there on days when conditions are good for contrails. |

Your question does not make any sense. Re-phrase, perhaps.
Do I think that those trails are not contrails?
No, they are contrails. |
