Famous National Debt Clock Runs Out of Digits

The National Debt Clock in New York City no longer has enough digits to display America's national digits without removing the dollar sign in front of the figure.

The Times Square digital billboard has been displaying America's national debt since it was put up by Seymour Durst to call attention to what was then a $2.7 trillion national debt. The figure is now over $10.2 trillion.

The Durst Organization says it will add two digits to the clock next year, enabling it to track debt of up to $1 quadrillion. For now, the dollar sign has been replaced with the "1" in $10 trillion.
