The book "Enders Game" by Orson Scott Card describes this website exactly - written in 1977
The book "Enders Game" is science fiction book which was a best seller a couple of decades ago. the story was written in 1977, though.

The book is another attempt to describe the "Christ" or "the one" and the trials and tribulations he goes through.

However, a very interesting story line in the book relates to the use of the net to influence opinions through discussion boards just like this one. The main characters in this storyline use aliases to form a "good cop" / "bad cop" relationship with the audience. By doing this and seeing the reactions of the other posters on the forums, they are able to create a factions and followings. Then they are able to create a war by pitting one faction against the other. Then, of course, they offer a solution in the end and are able to "rule the world".

The similarities to this website is alarming to say the least. Personalities like "trinity" and "Omega" and "SHR" have been able to string people along just like the sheeple in the story. And nobody knows who they are or what their real views are.

All we can assume is that they are after power. Their secrecy gives everything away.

Fact follows fiction. Or is it the other way around.

Anyone else read this book?

One of my favorites. Did you know that it is used in leadership classes and by the military? And that some of the weightless manuveurs have actually been tried in space?

i can imagine them using that book as a "leadership" book. It does accurately describe the jealousies and resentments that people have towards each other - especially to those who are "better" than the others.

I bet the mods have read it. :)

That's funny -- considering how the book is about the military lying to kids to send them off to war...

Great book.

The boards that the characters in the book were manipulating were mainstream global political boards - ones that millions of people paid attention to on a daily basis. Not sure I see GLP as being the same thing. :)

This website resembles nothing even remotely described by Card relating to Demosthenes and Locke.

The Internet (if you want to call it that) described in that book was far more pervasive and ingrained in everyone's lives - the need for Ender's brother and sister (not in battle school) to use their father's "Citizen Access" to gain privileged access to important discussion forums for example.

The fact that you were able to post here prove the above is not required, ergo my, "You are full of crap" statement.

Re: The book "Enders Game" by Orson Scott Card describes this website exactly - written in 1977
I will elaborate a little on the plot as it really does apply to today...

The military is looking for "the one" who is intelligent enough to command the "fleet" and win against the "buggers".

the buggers attacked first (two different wars)

the buggers are controlled by "queens" and every other bug is just an extension of the queen. Just like an ant colony one might guess. If the queen is killed, the others all die. This is the same thing as the "smiths" in the Matrix. Basically, the "sheeple" in this world would be the same as the buggers in my opinion.

Ender is lied to and manipulated into defeating the entire race of bugger queens. After he destroys them, he realises that the buggers didn't know that they were actual intelligent lifeforms until it was too late.

He feels remorse and guilt and betrayal.

To me, this might be the same as how those in power treated Jesus Christ - using him to manipulate the population and eventually destroying him and manipulating his words to retain power.

While this is going on, his "brother" and "sister" manipulate the world population by deceit and lying - creating a war at home and then solving the war and being a hero at the end and the brother is the ruler.

I don't think that GLP comes even close to fitting the description of Ender's reality...

I was mostly talking about the other storyline in relation to GLP - the ability to use secrecy and lying and deceit with aliases on a broad based discussion forum to divide and create animosity and confusion - which i think everyone here would agree is most certainly happening - all without any accountability from those who moderate it - all done in secret.

The ender storyline does have relevance here, though - just see the Comet Holmes thread :)

Awesome book. It's on the CNO's reading list, too. However, I don't see the political forums Peter and Valentine used resembling GLP much. Also, "Ender's Game" was published as a short story in 1977. That version was only one Battle Room sequence. The novel Ender's Game, with Peter and Valentine, was published in 1985. The nets described resemble Usenet more than the internet we have now.

yes one of the names was Demonstenes I think?

Card did indeed describe the internet way back then when all they had were maybe some email networks. It was the first thick novel I read besides White Fang. My mom just got it for me one day and I read it in a weekend. Awesome read. Children of the Mind is pretty good too. Speaker was long and not quite as action packed.

Valentine and Peter Wiggin the future Hegemon who loved to torture squirrels. What vivid pictures Card could describe, and who can forget Bean!

While Ender was attending battle school, his brother and sister back on Earth, Peter and Valentine, assumed fake "internet" IDs and started posting propaganda on message boards. They quickly gained a following and started hearing their own parents talk about their fake identities. You really don't remember that? Their fake names were Demosthenes and Locke. You should read the book again.

That's why they scripted the nobody meme

And most likely have always been influencing Thomas

They got confused when Thomas submitted the Christina Moore Murder affidavit and posted it online

Thomas also tied Dan Meirer and Pankrantz and Marc Tobius to the terroristic threats when Pankrantz phoned bomb threats to Univ of South Dakota on two occasions.....FBI likes poly graphing perps....failure to cooperate means one thing: GUILT

Whose guilty?

They stole my damages...does this have to come out in Fed District Court?

He's typing out the subpoenas now....we'll start wi the Sf FBI who will incriminate NSA and Dick......then.....revolution gets fueled...no?

They had to scramble to find the traitor who took control the nobody?

This led to dominos falling...resentments and suspicions....

Cheney's still running the Shadow Gov from behind a Wizard of Oz curtain (...."and your little dog too.....")

wiz of z is a mind control meme script....but nobody used it at his blog to support throwing water on the witch?

Was that scripted?

It's all compartmentalized...not even the FBI agents have a clue what is in his suppressed complaints?

What about the second complaint from Thomas????

Not one Gov shill at a forum has asked for it? odd like that?

Odd Thomas is a movie coming out?

Similar to nobody?
