Anytime there's an emotionally charged issue, they're going to prepare. Actually, it's pretty common for most departments to schedule more officers even when the weather's a little warmer on the weekends than average.

But sure, it's not fair, and maybe a little racist, but the riot thing is there. Sadly, I've heard anecdotal stories that some places are doing the same thing, but geared toward riots if Obama wins.

Either way, it's probably going to be a mess for a while.

I agree with your comments. The unfortunate truth of the matter is that while we all know each person regardless of race is created equal, and we know we shouldn't judge by race; we often fall into the trap ourselves. Maybe not totally, but weave in and out of it.

True, with my only caveat being that us (well, me) white folks aren't exactly as gentle and passive as we'd love to believe. Maybe a little slower off the blocks, but all things being equal, we're at least as violent. All in all, it's hard to find a race that's as torn as us whites. On one hand we want peace and shake our heads at black riots. On the other, any history book shows we're more than willing to jump into unnecessary violence.

A black gang might spray your house with bullets...we were doing that in the 1920s and 30s. They might disagree and riot too quickly...we wait till things are over the top, and then start wars that kill millions.

White folks make some of the best weapons, and have collected tactics from around the world. Maybe that's why I'm not terribly worried about race. It's one thing to riot a little, but I think even the most militant black folks probably would like to avoid waking the sleeping giant of determination in angry white people.
