Re: Is a Raven a bad omen or a good omen or nothing?
Would that be the same for crows then?

Crow=Law

You must reflect on how you see the laws of the Great Spirit in relation to the laws of humanity. Crow medicine signifies a firthand knowlege of a higher order of right and wrong than that indicated by laws of human nature.

Crow looks at the world with one eye, and then crossed eye, he lives in the void with no sense of time. Crow sees all simultaneously, past, present and futute.

:)

no creature made by the Great Spirit is evil. It is man that changes that nature of God and uses these animals as an evil tool..that is evil.

Re: Is a Raven a bad omen or a good omen or nothing?
Could be the 'demon' Raum. He often appears as a crow or raven initially. He'll change to a human shape if you make him though...

The last time I saw a lone raven...he landed on my hood while I was parked...I thought it was strange since a bird has never done that. I started my car, turned the corner, only to be broad-sided by an 18-wheeler. I spent 2 days in Hospital.

Next time I see a raven land on my head, i'll take it as a very real warning.

Amazing, sorry for your pain, but that story is amazing. They do try to warn us. Sometimes its just hard to know "of what" they are warning.

maybe you should have sat a bit and reflected why the raven choose to appear so near to you...you would not have been "nearly hit by a truck" if you would asked raven why he was there.

Oh fuk, dont go to sleep tonite! Well guess who won the Breeder's Cup tonight, a big upset??? Raven Pass!! And guess what the number of the horse is? Yes, the number 8
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 374615

The Raven is symbolic of Elijah and they fly in Independence Park in Jerusalem.

In Hebrew Gematra 8 = CHET

Chet.
(In spelling, interchanges with: , , ; , , ; , ; ; ; ; .)
(Chet = --- 418 --- Barrier or Fence.)

The eight days of Chanukah - "The candle of God is the soul of man."
The circumcision of the foreskin of the lips on (Zot) Chanukah.
The circumcision of the foreskin of the ears on the eighth day of Sukkot.
The circumcision of the foreskin of the heart on Yom Kippur, the eighth day of the High Priest’s separation.

You goddamned nuts.

A raven is a bird. They feed off trash and roadkill, so obviously they live around people.

But unless you live in the countryside, you probably saw a crow, the raven's smaller cousin.

(Ravens are big birds, with thicker black beaks. Crows are about the size of a pigeon, but with a longer tail.)

...Or maybe something evil that was inhabiting the raven caused the accident...the landing of the bird on my hood may have been less a 'warning' and more of a 'sign' of my impending misfortune.

The truck driver, a "healthy" 28 year old, had a heart attack and died instantly right before hitting me and plowing into a light pole.

If the bird really wanted to distract me from this accident, it should have flown in my car or shit on my hand, lol!

Its whatever you chose to believe it is. You control your destiney by the thoughts you chose to entertain. Personally ,I say its just a bird.

Depends on the shamanistic tradition that you subscribe to but I saw rather large raven out of place and under peculiar circumstances in August so I looked it up. Here is what I found and it resonates with me. (As with all things YMMV )

Of course and I meant only the highest respect and honour for your tribe and all ways of knowing, especially the elder ones that have been passed down untainted for many many generations. Just wanted to pass on a link with a positive spin to counteract all the doomy portents from other belief systems. The raven encounter was obviously deeply meaningful to the OP who came here for some help with interpretation as most of us humans have become a bit rusty at dealing with the numinous. In that case it sometimes helps to look to other older traditions for help with decoding, especially the ones that teach that man is not separate from nature.

It wasn't an encounter. It had to do with the horse winning yesterday at the Breeder's Cup as I mentioned before. The name of the horse that won is Raven Pass and the number of the horse is 8.

I already got my answer by doing a Google search and typing in 'raven mythology'.
