All my credit cards debt and my mortgage will be null and void! I'm a Junior majoring in physics at the Georgia Institute of Technology, one of the best in the country. I will keep this concise. Quoting: Student 500533During my advising session, I was asking him all sorts of questions to pass the time as we talked about possibly getting a Masters there. We talked about politics, life on other planets I then asked him about 2012. He said that theory is hog wash, the galactic plane is too wide from the nuclear bulge caused by Sagitarius A (the Milky Way's black hole) to have any immediate effect on our Solar System. I know you crazy asses want to believe otherwise, but my professor has credentials, namely CalTech and Stanford post doc, and I believe him before any one else, regardless of a crazy woo woo's conviction. But what he said after, is what startled me, he said, I quote, "We need to be worrying about the next months than the next 4 years". I asked him what he meant by that. He said he and his research group calculated a weird disturbance about 50 parsecs away from our solar system that is just now reaching us (apparently, this event happened many, many years ago). A Huge Microwave/Gamma/X-Ray burst. Now, these these things happen more often more than we know, but we're usually unaffected because space is just too vast, and the energy flux is proportional to distance squared, so by the time it reaches us, our magnetosphere can deal with the radiation. But he said this one was different. He stated it was laser-like beam of particles headed directly to our solar system. Now laser like doesn't mean the diameter of a pencil, no, this laser beam has the diameter of half our solar system. Normally when a star emits radiation, it does so spherically, so it's spread. But somehow, this one, from whatever created it, managed to concentrate the radiation is a very tight bundle. I asked him "You're awfully calm about this, are we going to die?" He replied..."Eh, space is a turbulent place, factors change. The first wave packet would reach us around January, followed by another some many years later"(he said he couldn't calculate it due to the fact the first energy packet is in the way of the second). I asked him "is this that crisis they are talking about happening?". He said "It could be, this first wave has particle energies in the GeV, multiply that by, trillions of particles, and our atmosphere will saturate, and once it saturates, will filter down to our terrestrial electronics, frying anything with a transistor" The only reassuring thing he said was "But, the sun has the ability to filter alot of this out with a CME we're theoretically predicting to occur around that time. The particle will collide and lose much of their energy." We talked some more, but essentially, what he was saying if Earth is hit by this, full on, we'll get thrown back to the stone age. If the sun interferes, we'll be spared the rod, to a certain degree. Regardless, I think this is what's going to happen. It can't go to the news because 1, it's still too theoretical and 2, we may get lucky. Plus, if it does happen, I guess it won't matter if you knew about it beforehand anyway, no normal man could financially shield his electronics from such energetic particles (look up quantum tunneling). Take this what you will. God help us (if there is any being looking after us) |

The OP demonstrated the beam with an animated picture. I read this thread with so much interest the whole day yesterday. Also the people on that site are wonderfully amazingly broad minded people with astute questions for the OP. I like the crowd very much. Very polite, civilized and informative. Hi alienatti, thanks for pointing. I saw that pic posted on glp also but forgot where. The poster talked he was aiming at to be more then 95% negative, to be self-serving to the max. As an example how NOT to be. I hope you picked up on that :) I learned so much, Darza. While I am not so spiritual, I am beginning to transform. I am so grateful to find that site. Of course they don´t, as they neither write down prophecies concerning 2012. At least none hard documented proof about such a forecast, just the completion of one more cycle within the long count calendar. Nevertheless, such "coincidence" seems strange (at least), and the widely distributed myth (history?) among mesoamerican cultures concerning the "age change" is quite intriguing. Perhaps, after all, they were depositaries of an ancient knowledge developed by a more technological advanced society (destroyed long ago), they get such knowledge from communications from an equivalent (or quite more advanced) society (perhaps not human) or... all is coincidence mixed with plenty of imagination, and well fueled by (relatively) modern Mayan´s Chilam Balam´s ideas... including the desire of retribution from the later conquerers to them... for the so many and outreageous crimes their ancestors (and even them, today) are/were submited to.
