But really, they close embassies all the time in the mideast for all sorts of threats that come in. Now if they permanently close it, that'll be a different story. When the Lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, "Come!" I looked, and there before me was a black horse! Its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand. Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, "A quart of wheat for a day's wages, and three quarts of barley for a day's wages, and do not damage the oil and the wine!" -Revelation 6:5, 6:6 |

Grizzled Old Goat User ID: 538147 Canada 10/29/2008 09:27 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This was the story earlier - the US was "weighing it's response" to the closing of the American School in Damascus. Quite the response! I'm sure the Baathists are scratching their heads & wondering whether to begin pooping their pants.. ------------------------------------------------------------- WASHINGTON (AFP) The US State Department said Wednesday it was weighing a response to Syria after it was told it had to close the US cultural center and the American school in Damascus. US charge d'affaires Maura Connelly was summoned Wednesday to the Syrian foreign ministry where the chief of protocol "verbally communicated" Syria's "request that the American cultural center be closed immediately," deputy spokesman Robert Wood said. "The Syrian government also requested that the Damascus Community School -- known in Damascus as the American school -- be closed on November 6," he told AFP without specifying the reasons presented by the Syrians. "We will not go into further details of the diplomatic exchange. We're looking at how to respond," he said. In Damascus, Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Meqdad said his government is awaiting an explanation from Washington and Baghdad about a deadly US helicopter raid on Syria before deciding whether to take further retaliatory steps. Syria says eight civilians were killed in Sunday's assault, launched from Iraq, on a village near the Iraqi border. A US official in Washington has said the operation targeted militants who smuggle arms and fighters into Iraq. Officially, the State Department and Pentagon have declined to comment. On Tuesday, Syria protested to the UN Security Council over what it branded a barbarous action and decided to close the two American institutions in Damascus. But the Damascus Community School and the US cultural center remained open on Wednesday, saying they had not been officially told by authorities to close. At the same time, Americans in Syria were advised by their embassy on its website that the mission might be closed to the public following the weekend raid. [link to news.yahoo.com] |
