Acting as Federal Reserve chairman, Paul Volcker killed the wave of spiralling inflation in the 70's by raising interest rates into the teens. A repeat of this action is not possible today, because to do so would crush all business activity in the USA, leading to a deep and protracted depression. Paul Volcker's ideas are powerless to stop what is coming. What America needed ,( and stupidly
squandered the opportunity), was a Ron Paul presidency and the collective will to ditch the failed current floating fiat monetary system in favor of a new Bretton Woods agreement with the monetary discipline that system would provide.The Europeans may force the issue soon, and a challenge to the $US dollar hegemony as world reserve currency, by a new Russian-Sino-Arab bloc, may propel a displacement of the $US dollar usage in favor of a new hard currency.

Barack Obama is clueless on monetary policy, and consequently is unable to even select the correct advisors to lead America out of the deep hole that has been dug to date. Instead , it appears that, lacking any talent in critical analytical thinking, the current leaders will continue to advocate more of the same actions that caused the current crisis in the first place!

Sadly, those who really are not very smart, are unaware of their ineptitude, and will refuse to relinquish their status and power to those with more integrity and ability.

So, to summarize , and put in the vernacular...

better buckle up, because we are in for a roller coaster ride on many levels, and it's going to get a whole lot worse before it gets any better at all.
