Yes, I know it's not to scale, and the equator is off, but anyone with a pound of logic can see that this almost-scale-model works out pretty nicely to show that the sun will not illuminate the whole earth, but parts and different times, like shown.

That's not a fact. From the north pole there are several southern constellations that are not visible.

Okay, so Antarctica, Arctic, North hemisphere over the.. let's say... 50th parallel (North) and under the 50th parallel (south) never receive sun?

As light travels through the Atmosphere it gets scattered by the particles in the atmosphere, in effect weakening it. At the equator, the sunlight has the least distance to go to the earth through the atmosphere, making it hotter at the equator. At the poles, the light has to travel through more of the atmosphere, which weakens it, making the suns light colder.
