It's not intimidation - it's for your protection - in case someone gets violent. This is a highly charged election - people are on edge.

Indiana is definitely in the Obama column.

Obama made his final stop of the campaign in Indianapolis this morning. McCain was there yesterday and was just giving a live interview with Indianapolis TV at noon. Shows you just how competitive it is in Indiana.

Obama was expected to visit several polling places this morning in Indianapolis but as far as I know he only made one stop at a call center where he personally called about 20 people on the phone to ask them to come out and vote for him. He then left early.

McCain just added the live interview which was akward at best. He was taking shots at NBC the whole time and looked very beaten, to be honest.

Re: The 'Official' I Voted Thread ... What Was Your Experience?
I went early in Texas.

No problems - found the polling locations easily online.

I couldn't find my current voters' registration card, but had an old one.

Showed up, no wait - showed them the expired registration card, they asked for my ID - showed it, signed the registrar, and at the next station, they printed a little paper ticket with a number on it.

Took it to a private voting booth and typed in my number, it pulled up a ballot and I made selections by turning a wheel and pressing a button. At the end I had an opportunity to check/correct my whole ballot - and it was all done and dusted!

No problems no issues.

Polite campaigners outside keeping their distance, no long lines, no wait, nothing unusual.

Saw old friends inside that I hadn't seen in a year or two.

It was nice - brought a feeling of community.

Well, it must be. Did they DO anything...

NO.

Then they were there IN CASE something happened.

Nothing happened - so they didn't do anything.

Who, exactly, would they be trying to "intimidate" and in what way?

No, I'm seriously asking. Just wondering if anyone has actually seen anything to make them believe this or if it's just media/fear hype. I don't think the police are there to intimidate. Just to make us fear our neighbors.

Obama left early. McCain was doing a live INTERVIEW (with adverse questions) at the last minute. I think that tells you just what the internals of both campaigns are showing.

Turnout here is massive. The first place I went had almost 2,000 people in line at 6 a.m. this morning. I went somewhere else and luckily only had to wait 15 minutes.

Already had a half dozen Obama get out the vote volunteers knock on my door. The turnout is really strong.

Go Obama!

Was in line at 5:55 in Chicago. All went well. Choose paper, was 19th in my line. Got done in 45 minutes.
All done....

JML - was there any law enforcement at your polling place?

One thing I was amazed by was the number of people who didn't know where to vote. There were several people who were in the wrong place, and were mad that the election judges couldn't tell them where to go.
Seems like in the age of information that they would be more prepared.

Re: The 'Official' I Voted Thread ... What Was Your Experience?
I haven't been yet, but my neighbor just called to to ask if I knew that our polling place had changed. Apparently she didn't realize it (I did).

She went to the little fire station (our old place) and waited in line 30 minutes to be told that she was at the wrong place. She went to the little church down the street (the new place) and there was NO line....she says she figures everyone is standing in line at the fire station, lol! :)

We still have paper ballots. I am happy about that :)
 Quoting: jlazarus

Yes, I know what you mean, I just noticed early this morning that my polling place was no longer the fire station. When I went to the church at 6:30am, there was a line, but I got in and out by 7:10. The people (in line and working) were happy and sociable.
