UUmmm...they are multi millionaires. She doesn't need a "clothing allotment".

They just ran (from what I understand was) the largest presidential campaign in US history. You can bank that they had many stylists. And you can also bank on the fact that there was a reason for that dress. Nothing...and I mean NOTHING...in a campaign such as Obama's was left to chance or decided on a whim. Every move is decided by teams of planners and analysts and executed with purpose.

That leaves us with only one question: what was the message?

He should have looked happy, triumphant but he looked depressed. This must have been a letdown to the Black people who are terrifically uplifted at this historic time.

Just as one would not normally wear red to a funeral, or white to a wedding competing with the bride, or black to a wedding which would symbolize mourning, clothes send a message about the person.

Just as Hillary wore the bright orange pant suit when she acknowledged defeat to Obama. Orange signifies strength and endurance, and also is used as a warning and danger symbol. Hillary was sending a message to Obama with her clothing. "Do not cross me, I still have power over you." And she held that power over Obama by her campaign efforts on his behalf. She could have refused to endorse him anywhere along the line.

Color and pattern has always held significant meaning. Particular colors cause particular emotions.

You better believe Michelle thought this out very well. It was calculated to send a message.

Their victory clothing was an entirely clear message. There were no red, white, and blue significant symbols during this speech or on the stage, or anywhere included in this celebration. Where were the red, white and blue balloons normally dropped after one of these victory rallies? You saw none of this. The entire mood was somber, and they walked off the stage after Obama's speech looking quite smug. This was not your usual celebration. They sent a clear message by their clothing and the way the celebration was conducted that the entire landscape of the politics of the United States will be different from here on out.

It was a striking dress...for a different occasion and for a younger woman. The dress outshone her.
I think most people would agree that it was inappropriate for an Historic moment. The colors, the flashing beading called all the attention to her.

There was nothing wrong with the children's clothes, Michelle's dress was just ugly, that's all.
