Do you think Electronic Voice Phenomena is credible?
I think itīs possible, but it has a background branched from Spiritualism which was proven false when the Fox sisters admitted to what they were doing.

Thereīs a movie called "White Noise" out right now that is based on it. You basically sit in a quiet room with a sound recorder and ask questions out loud. Sometimes, it picks up sounds.

The show "Ghosthunters" on the SCIFI channel have examples of EVP - here is a link to their website where you can hear some - very creepy

Eventually out of pure randomness (which is what white noise is) comes order.

In other words if you listen to the void long enough everything will be hear.

Googling "Electronic voice phenomena" reveals some 13.200 hits - many containing comprehensive information and samples of the phenomenon, which is real enough.

Iīll be more impressed with EVP īevidenceī when I hear a full, clearly intelliglbe conversation conducted with an EVP voice -- in other words, one that respond clearly and coherently to specific questions, in a sustained and reasonable manner.

Havenīt heard anything like that to date.

Re: Do you think Electronic Voice Phenomena is credible?
A couple things about EVP.

The first time I heard of it was from the author (I think, maybe director but I think author) of the Exorcist. He had done this as īresearchī and heard positive results. He spoke of putting a cassette recorder in an empty room to record the nothingness. Then he spoke of listening to the tape over and over with the voices become louder and louder, clearer and clearer with each play.

Second I thought was mildly interestings was that Edison was supposedly asked if he thought īrecording spiritsī would be posible and he said he did. He felt that with a sensitive enough recorder, īspiritsī would be more able to communicate than thru mediums and other means.

Tesla and Marconi also spoke of picking up some real strange sounds, but then so does SETI.

Re: Do you think Electronic Voice Phenomena is credible?
Iīve heard EVPīs that could be anything...a flaw on the tape or from the recorder. But Iīve also heard some EVPīs that were extremely clear and left virtually no doubt as to what was being said.
Being an electronically based phenomena it does warrant some serious scientific study.

Re: Do you think Electronic Voice Phenomena is credible?
First, just becasue someone (like the Fox sisters) faked an event it doesnīt make all events faked.

Toothneeker, the other side simply does not respond with the same rules and in the same way -that doesnīt make it all a fraud. Perhaps it may just be our thinking.

For those of you who want proof you should still be able to find it at Jeff Renseīs website. Thereīs nothing like hearing the details BEFORE an event to convince a few skeptics. I mean īskepticsī because a true skeptic is open-minded not just in total denial. To those who have their mind made up in advance there is no amount of proof to satisfy them.

When Laci Peterson FIRST went missing someone was posting the audio files of EVP at Renseīs website. On the files her husband was named as the killer. Her body was said to be tied to a pier in the EXACT location where police LATER detected something. The recordings kept saying that the body would not be found yet - until several days BEFORE Connorīs body was found, at which time the message (posted in advance at Sightings) was SOON. Oh yeah, it also said where the body would wash up.

Go find the files and listen for yourself. Yes, itīs hard to hear but you can hear the messages for yourself. The transcripts of those messages were posted IN ADVANCE!

Re: Do you think Electronic Voice Phenomena is credible?
sometimes the folks from ghostpix.com are on the art bell show:

"Recap
The Dead Speak
Ghost Investigators Society members, Brendan Cook and Barbara McBeath, returned to the show with another batch of recorded ghost voices, known as Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP). This time some of the voices of the dead came from Deer Lodge Prison in Montana, Wyoming State Penitentiary, and the Gold Hill Hotel in Virginia City, Nevada.

While Investigating the Gold Hill Hotel, McBeath and Cook recorded a young boy pleading "Help me" and a woman asking, "Are you alone?" On an EVP recorded at Deer Lodge Prison, the voice of a man can be heard saying, "Help, Iīm in here." Perhaps more disturbing is a recording they captured at the Wyoming State Penitentiary in which a man plainly states, "I have to go now. Iīm dead."

McBeath believes the vast majority of ghosts she has recorded either do not realize they are dead or are in denial about it. Cook thinks that by recording the dead, he is helping them to embrace their fate. As an example, he cited an EVP recorded in a cemetery of an old woman who suddenly realized, "Iīm completely dead." McBeath and Cook claim after that she was never heard from again."
