GE Wins FDIC Insurance for Up to $139 Billion in Debt (Update2)

Nov. 12 (Bloomberg) -- General Electric Co. said the U.S. government agreed to insure as much as $139 billion in debt for lending arm GE Capital Corp., the second time in a month it has turned to a federal program designed to help companies during a global credit crunch.
Granting GE Capital, which isn't a bank, access to a new Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. program may reassure investors and help the unit compete with banks that already have government protection behind their debt, said Russell Wilkerson, a spokesman for the Fairfield, Connecticut-based company. Coverage would be for about $139 billion, or 125 percent of total senior unsecured debt outstanding as of Sept. 30 and maturing by June 30.
``Inclusion in this program will allow us to source our debt competitively with other participating financial institutions,'' Wilkerson said. GE sent investors an e-mail about the program today and posted the letter on its Web site. ``Our participation is a positive development for our investors.''
GE's finance businesses are able to seek FDIC debt coverage because its GE Capital subsidiary also owns a federal savings bank and an industrial loan company, both of which already qualify. GE last month started using a new Federal Reserve program designed to revive demand for commercial paper amid the global crisis.
The company's exposure to the deepest global financial crisis since the 1930s has cut its market value by more than half this year, as Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey Immelt twice lowered his target for 2008 profit. GE fell $1.52, or 8.5 percent, to $16.29 at 4:15 p.m. in New York Stock Exchange composite trading amid a broad decline in U.S. stocks. The shares are at their lowest level since January 1997.

hehe- infinity- i like that.
what happened to oil will soon apply here.
the USD is the last bubble, a new frontier.
while demand for physical greenbacks continues, the music will keep playing. the money supply can be a potent tool to delay the inevitable for a time.
eventually, the price of everything will deflate to the point that trade will cease in non essentials.

What is the overall bailout at now? They should have just dolled out a $1,000,000 cheque to every man woman and child in the US and then let wallstreet go under. The way this scam is working out now all of the corps get to keep functioning on your tax dollars while they still pay their ceo's millions in bonuses and wine and dine their clients, all on your tax dollars. Heck they even get to go back to uncle sam's tittie and renegotiate the price of their milk! What did you get out of the great bailout? A Worthless home? Worthless portfolio? no job? piles of debt? |

true, this is the neo con(nazi) retirement package. They threatened congress with blowing up america or something if congress didn't vote to give them 700 billion in a neo con(nazi) bailout package.
I'm afraid that even if Obama or whoever goes after them for stealing billions from the united states citizens they'll again threaten to blow up america. These people are ruthless.
Best thing that could happen is the american people become aware of the criminality of what the neo cons(nazi's) are doing. Then we may have some payback. |

Well, this is what I think. Obama had to win the election - because he can more effectively calm the masses down than another old white guy could.
The big announcement will come around that January 22nd timeline. By then, every average American will have spent most of their savings on the Holidays & Obama will be sworn in as President. He'll start off with - "Hey - this is the hand I've been dealt. I am going to fix it. It's time for a change. Yadda, yadda, yadda" & he will manage to calm people down just for a bit... Then, it will be their next move...
Of course - there is the ever present reality of earth changes - major earth changes - happening while all of this is playing out.
This makes me think of a special I saw. They were explaining how girls fall for pimps. At 1st he seems REAL nice, then, he starts smacking you around a bit but tells you it is your fault. All the while getting you to go out - earn money - & then hand it all over to him. |
