All the people who are getting layed off are also in the job market now, yikes.

Try networking with friends, relatives, and business associates.

There are business that are still hiring, but don't rely on simply emailing your resume - hit the streets! Shake hands, meet with people, never stop networking.

It's true. May dad works in government and he is about to get laid off. Huge cutbacks in local government where I live (and I live in a very large city that is doing better than most U.S. cities). My mom also retired from government and they are talking about cutting back her medical benefits.

good luck, good luck and more good luck. I hope you get a good job very soon. It really sucks to be laid off. Going the temp route could be good because it lets you and your employer work out if its a good fit for both of you. Oh and allow yourself to properly get over the shock of losing your job - its part of the grieving process. clear it from your system and then jump back into the harness.
