What advice do you Canadians have for someone who is moving to Canada for the first time?

I love Canada. There are many different provinces though, and they are all different industries etc.. I guess it would depend on what you would want to do for a living and all that. Ontario is where I am, and it is a good central place with various industries.. and we gots good beer, eh!

Move to a territorial capital, whitehorse, yellowknife or iqaluit. They are cold places, but you get a safe, tight knit community with tons of jobs available. You also get tax incentives to live there, northern residency tax break + no GST.

Toronto gets snow all winter which is a downer and Vancouver gets rain all winter which is a downer.

I guess if you like "big city" life it's your choice. For me, I'll stick in my little 30,000 community.

I did live in Toronto for a while but didn't like it.....a nice place to VISIT though.

I knew you would reply! rose I do mainly at-home medical transcription/medical billing, as far as work goes; some legal junk on the side. Canada is huge.. and only dumb people would think that anything that vast would be the same from city to city. I need a place that is pretty quiet and pedestrian during the day, but has some measure of night life during the evenings. I'm in the L.A. area now. Can't stand it much longer. lol.

I know that....but Jan/Feb was steady, regular snow. Torontonians cried like babies during one of the blasts they got in Dec. of last year.

Well then you would love Toronto for nightlife.. all kinds there.. but probably would like to live outside of it like tons of ppl do. Aurora and Newmarket are nice places. Not far from Toronto, but nice smaller cities. My brother does that, commutes to Toronto on the GO train, has a station right near his house. You can probably look them up. Those 2 cities are pretty well right beside the other so they are similar.

Re: Is Canada A Good Place To Live? (thinking of moving there)
Go to Toronto. Vancouver is not that great. The people in Vancouver are not the friendliest bunch, and the schools/Universities are sort of cliquish.

Vancouver is an excellent place if you have a good social support, but not that great to move to to make a new life.

I have heard many more great things about Toronto as far as social/openness.

The nightlife in Vancouver is also dangerous. Every Saturday and Friday night there are drunken brawls, and the police cordon off the Granville street area to stop cars and violence.

Vancouver nightlife is also like that scene from fear and loathing in Las Vegas, where all the patrons turn into reptilians lol. It would be rare to see a non-reptile in a nightclub.

Edmonton is good for jobs/making a living, but it is incredibly cold. However the price for a studio apartment is still reasonable, and rent shouldn't be that much.

Toronto would be an ideal choice.
See ya.
