Re: Is Canada A Good Place To Live? (thinking of moving there)
How does one go about getting visa to move their?

yes! this is the stuff I'm looking for. I'm not lazy, I'll do research, but if there are things people can tell me from their actual experience, that's the best way...

Can't help out with that. Always been Canadian, and have never wanted to be anywhere else.

My sis's boyfriend came from Australia for a year on a worker's visa but he could not extend it and had to leave after the end of his year....so I don't know how it all works.

Awwwww!

It was, but now, not so much. It's too crowded too. Too many morons and illegals. I know you have chinese illegals, but at least they start businesses and work hard and learn English.

It helps if you have an education and job training. My friend had social work experience and a masters degree and got in just fine...

I assume you don't have $500,000 in liquid assets, otherwise you could get the business visa thing immediatly... once you deposit your money into a Canadian bank.

Marry a Canadian works.

Or hire a immigration specialist to help you out, so they can handle the paperwork... it's a long wait, I think...

Go to a couple Canadian cities and see how you like it.
See ya.

Oh you really don't want to move to Canada. We have socialized healthcare!!! Wouldn't you rather stay there and fork out your $500 per month in insurance. It's really difficult to go and get a prescription and have to pay $6.85 dispensing fee.

And do you know how hard it is trying to keep a roof on the igloo these days what with global warming, etc.

You probably wouldn't like our politics either. We're really backward. We have paper ballots and mark and x for the guy we want. We have a choice between about 5 or 6 parties and the guy with the most votes actually gets to be the one who governs the country. How messed up is that?

Okay, I'll give you that we have ass kicking good beer up here, but you'll probably hate poutine. Do you like ice hockey? Not much basketball up here, but we do have the Canadian Football League. Oh yeah, lots of fresh water and no rolling blackouts to contend with.

You really should reconsider, life in Canada might not be your cup of Red Rose tea. Oh by the way, if you should decide to come up here, please be kind enough to leave your firearms at home. Thank you.

OP, if it wasn't for being in a business that I'm too invested in to leave I'd move to Vancouver Island in
a heartbeat. Southern end. Wet climate, but decent temperatures year round. We camped in a little village
named Port Renfrew for a couple of weeks about five years ago. LOVED IT. The people and everything. BUT, it sounds like it might be a little remote for your tastes. Still,
I'm sure you could find anything you want to do just out
side of Victoria to it's west and northwest. Wouldn't be
a very far away move for you either.

Wouldn't blame anyone for wanting to move out of this fucked
up,....cough....cough!....Ack...ACKKKKK!!, 'homeland'.

That's the area that I'm in and I have to say that it's a little bit of heaven here. We maybe get a snowfall one or two days of the year. Yes, it does rain here but not nearly as much as Vancouver. Port Renfrew/Sooke area will be a lot wetter because it is on the westcoast. If however you are a surfer, some of the best waves are up Tofino way and you can't beat the scenery. You can always hike the Westcoast Trail. Victoria does have a pretty decent night life.

Yeah right man, it maybe socialized healthcare, but I probably racked up over $130,000 in Emergency Fees over the years when I was younger in Canada that the government paid.

While I was in the ER, there was an American woman there who had to pay the Canadian Hospital $1500 upfront just to be looked at.

I don't care what people say about the Canadian Healthcare system, but when I was in the hospital, I am glad I didn't have to worry about paying... like I would have in America.

In America, they overbill the SHIT out of everyone....

The ER wait lines in Canada is bullshit though, the system is not that great, but it's free. I saw a woman in the hospital who couldn't breath, and was stuck in the ER waiting for HOURS, and she was there the other night.

The Healthcare system is really good compared to other countries, but needs improvement.
See ya.

You'll have to get igloo insurance, and buy some harpoons for the seals and moose.

JK

I actually was born there, but live in the US now. Canada is great, but winters are long. If you don't mind the cold, go for it. I've been spoiled living in California now.

Summers are beautiful though:)

I need to know everyday stuff like how to get a driver's license.. what to expect when apartment hunting, etc... everyday stuff. Thinking of the Vancouver or Toronto area.

Toronto gets snow all winter which is a downer and Vancouver gets rain all winter which is a downer.

I guess if you like "big city" life it's your choice. For me, I'll stick in my little 30,000 community.

I did live in Toronto for a while but didn't like it.....a nice place to VISIT though.

wrong. toronto hardly had any snow last winter. only 2 snowstorms. it was no snow till december,

I know that....but Jan/Feb was steady, regular snow. Torontonians cried like babies during one of the blasts they got in Dec. of last year.
 Quoting: Full Circle

As someone who gets more than 3 feet of snow in Quebec... I know that the foot of snow that Montreal usually gets when it's only 500 km south of where I am is kind of cheap and easy to live with.

So, I suppose that what people in Ontario get is much less... that must make it quite easy to live with.

I have to disagree here. I think it's better to experience the worst of the weather initially (jump into the fire, so to speak). There are millions of Canucks that love winter, mostly those who are into skiing, snowmobileing, skating, etc. If she can handle the winters, then the rest is all gravy. IMHO
