Is Canada A Good Place To Live? (thinking of moving there) | |
| Anonymous Coward User ID: 510528 11/15/2008 05:15 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I am an American married to a French Canadian, living in the Toronto area. I HATE THE TORONTO AREA. I would much rather be living back in Quebec, but my hubby got a good job here. It seems there are some people who like Toronto, but compared to Quebec and the Maritimes, there is far too much crime here. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 522100JK I actually was born there, but live in the US now. Canada is great, but winters are long. If you don't mind the cold, go for it. I've been spoiled living in California now. Summers are beautiful though:) Okay... but we don't have that kind of huge 1 meter long bugs and spiders here thanks to that cold LOL. Quoting: molsonOh, just what I want If you won't smile we will force you to smile. :| Seriously, you will hate winter. Try a work visa for six months starting in the spring. I have to disagree here. I think it's better to experience the worst of the weather initially (jump into the fire, so to speak). There are millions of Canucks that love winter, mostly those who are into skiing, snowmobileing, skating, etc. If she can handle the winters, then the rest is all gravy. IMHO I dont know though lol if I saw Barrie for the first time to Canada in the winter I would be freaked!! LOL I've dreamt so long.. I cannot dream anymore.. |

Thinking of the Vancouver or Toronto area. Quoting: Whee! 8D.qc.caToronto gets snow all winter which is a downer and Vancouver gets rain all winter which is a downer. I guess if you like "big city" life it's your choice. For me, I'll stick in my little 30,000 community. I did live in Toronto for a while but didn't like it.....a nice place to VISIT though. wrong. toronto hardly had any snow last winter. only 2 snowstorms. it was no snow till december, I know that....but Jan/Feb was steady, regular snow. Torontonians cried like babies during one of the blasts they got in Dec. of last year. As someone who gets more than 3 feet of snow in Quebec... I know that the foot of snow that Montreal usually gets when it's only 500 km south of where I am is kind of cheap and easy to live with. So, I suppose that what people in Ontario get is much less... that must make it quite easy to live with. Not always. Southern Ontario is surrounded by three lakes (Ontario, Erie, and Huron). Depending on the winters, we are ripe for lake effect snow and are considered to be in the "snow belt". | Whee! 8D.qc.ca User ID: 550701 11/15/2008 05:23 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Oh you really don't want to move to Canada. We have socialized healthcare!!! Wouldn't you rather stay there and fork out your $500 per month in insurance. It's really difficult to go and get a prescription and have to pay $6.85 dispensing fee. Quoting: TryptamindYeah right man, it maybe socialized healthcare, but I probably racked up over $130,000 in Emergency Fees over the years when I was younger in Canada that the government paid. While I was in the ER, there was an American woman there who had to pay the Canadian Hospital $1500 upfront just to be looked at. I don't care what people say about the Canadian Healthcare system, but when I was in the hospital, I am glad I didn't have to worry about paying... like I would have in America. In America, they overbill the SHIT out of everyone.... The ER wait lines in Canada is bullshit though, the system is not that great, but it's free. I saw a woman in the hospital who couldn't breath, and was stuck in the ER waiting for HOURS, and she was there the other night. The Healthcare system is really good compared to other countries, but needs improvement. For those who can afford it, there are still some private hospitals.
