had a great time, and loved peggy's cove. Just sitting on the rocks...very nice feeling of connection there

Oh you really don't want to move to Canada. We have socialized healthcare!!! Wouldn't you rather stay there and fork out your $500 per month in insurance. It's really difficult to go and get a prescription and have to pay $6.85 dispensing fee.

Yeah right man, it maybe socialized healthcare, but I probably racked up over $130,000 in Emergency Fees over the years when I was younger in Canada that the government paid.

While I was in the ER, there was an American woman there who had to pay the Canadian Hospital $1500 upfront just to be looked at.

I don't care what people say about the Canadian Healthcare system, but when I was in the hospital, I am glad I didn't have to worry about paying... like I would have in America.

In America, they overbill the SHIT out of everyone....

The ER wait lines in Canada is bullshit though, the system is not that great, but it's free. I saw a woman in the hospital who couldn't breath, and was stuck in the ER waiting for HOURS, and she was there the other night.

The Healthcare system is really good compared to other countries, but needs improvement.


For those who can afford it, there are still some private hospitals.

I need to know everyday stuff like how to get a driver's license.. what to expect when apartment hunting, etc... everyday stuff. Thinking of the Vancouver or Toronto area.



Toronto gets snow all winter which is a downer and Vancouver gets rain all winter which is a downer.

I guess if you like "big city" life it's your choice. For me, I'll stick in my little 30,000 community.

I did live in Toronto for a while but didn't like it.....a nice place to VISIT though.

I know that....but Jan/Feb was steady, regular snow. Torontonians cried like babies during one of the blasts they got in Dec. of last year.


As someone who gets more than 3 feet of snow in Quebec... I know that the foot of snow that Montreal usually gets when it's only 500 km south of where I am is kind of cheap and easy to live with.

So, I suppose that what people in Ontario get is much less... that must make it quite easy to live with.

You probably wouldn't like our politics either. We're really backward. We have paper ballots and mark and x for the guy we want. We have a choice between about 5 or 6 parties and the guy with the most votes actually gets to be the one who governs the country. How messed up is that?

Okay, I'll give you that we have ass kicking good beer up here, but you'll probably hate poutine. Do you like ice hockey? Not much basketball up here, but we do have the Canadian Football League. Oh yeah, lots of fresh water and no rolling blackouts to contend with.

I dislike the overinflated real estate market on the west coast.

I live in S BC not kelowna..Canada is all about small towns like Kelowna..I can't stress the beauty in Kelowna [still to big] Canada has to offer..What can I say..heaven maybe.

I was only kidding! Seriously, my youngest son has a severe peanut allergy and requires epi-pens. They run over $100 per pop and all I pay is a dispensing fee of $6.85. I have lived in Canada all of my life, had 5 children and never had to pay extra over and above the nominal fee that is charged for the medical services plan. We have been to ER on occasion and never had a huge wait. My father-in-law suffered from all sorts of illesses and was on dialysis, all covered. I wonder what it would cost for dialysis 3 times per week in the US if you didn't have insurance. During the election, I heard some people claiming that in Canada you can't chose which doctor you go to or which hospital you go to. That is simply not true. Unlike the American HMOs that give you a list of physicians that you can go to, we are free to go to anyone we want, providing they are taking new patients!

Yup, I love this country of ours and wouldn't want to go live anywhere else.

PSST. . . . if you do move here OP, call home and tell everyone know how really dreadful it is, kay. We'd rather our little secret didn't get out.

London is 15 minutes drive and has nearing 400,000 pop. Good University...(University of Western Ontario). Lots of night life and an excellent arena for major attractions (JLC)

Well marijuana is still illegal in all provinces just so you know. We came real close to decriminalizing it in Ontario a few years ago.

Toronto is pretty open when it comes to marijuana. I know of at least 3 or 4 cafes/lounges where you can smoke in peace and grab a bite to eat. They are real low key establishements yet not sketchy and no selling is allowed so they rarely ever get busted or shut down.

Toronto also holds a huge Marijuana march every May in conjunction with other cities all over the world. Thousands gather to march down the streets in peaceful protest and then gather at this huge park. Once at the park there are bands playing and lots of info booths and the police allow you to smoke freely as long as you stay in the park area. It's a pretty cool expierence and a lot of fun.

I would avoid Ottawa. It's like government central. The parliment is their and military bases. Very business and serious and not very artsy or hippie.

We got all kindsa Universities.. U of T.. Wilfred Laurier.. U of Waterloo.. McMaster U.. none of them too far..

Good luck getting in. It's not easy. They actually have rules to get in unlike the US. And if your American, it's really hard. You need to actually have skills, and an education. You need so many points to even have a chance. Now, if your from some poor backwater country, you can get in real easy, claiming political asylum or religious freedom.
