Alberta is cool, goto the west Edmonton mall. Saskatchewan has lots of jobs atm, farming country. Manitoba has lots of jobs up north at hydro dams, really good fishing. Winnipeg is rich in music, lots of native gangs though. Ontario, as we step out of the canadian shield...is full of torys, Toronto is ethnically diverse, love it. go leafs go. Quebec wants to separate, 'nuff said. The maritime provinces PEI, NovaScotia, NewBrunswick, lots of lobster. Labrador and Newfoundland, if your a flat lander, landlubber, be prepared for some unique culture and great scenery. Last but not least, the Great White North above, The fabulous Yukon, Northwest territories and Nunavut. Lots of jobs, oil, minerals, fishing, hunting, midnight golf, low crime. All in all, the beers good, the health care free, the people friendly and the choices aplenty. eh. |

Not a big fan of large cities but there is a lot to do here. Winter is long here but I didn't find it too cold this year. Just gotta get used to it. It took me 5 years to immigrate to Canada. It’s a HUGE pain in the ass. I married a Canadian and it just took ages and ages. In 2 years I am applying for citizenship …hopefully that will be easier. But I love love love Canada. I wouldn’t move back to US for any reason. I do hope to move to a smaller town tho. I have found people here are a lot nicer…at least in the smaller town I used to live in. Not sure about Edmonton really. Anyway…if you can swing the tough immigration…its well worth the effort to move here. |

Medical is free, you only pay for Dental 20% after 3 months of being hired. Mean while your City will pay for your emergency dental, eye ware and exams, and medicine. Industrial jobs are close by, manufacturing jobs, administrative jobs, trades are in demand. You can have a free land for a garden in the summer to kill some time from the local farmer programs or the gov... There is lots of national parks close by and adventurous heritage places you can visit. IT IS AMAZING. Come on down... It's a secret oasis Wow! I live in Burlington too! This is a great place to live.  |

When you want to get away from the big city, come to Victoria, our capital, you will be amazed.Vancouver Island is 300 miles long and about 50 miles wide, with gorgeous small towns and a couple mid sized cities.It gets wilder and more sparse as you drive north. Google it. We have many small inhabited Islands to get away from hectic life.Google the area, BC is a wild and beautiful province, lakes,rivers,trees,mountains. There are no mountains in Ontario, and the fresh water caused humidity would just torture a west coaster in the summer, it is very oppressive and unrelenting, smog galore, worse than L.A. The myth that it rains all the time here has been fostered by us to keep people from over populating our cities.We do get enough rain to keep it a pretty green all year round on the west coast, but it is dry and hot in the summer, with mild winters on the coast, that gets cooler as you go inland, like anywhere else.Toronto people repeat the myth out of pure envy and jealousy. You are a west coaster. just come straight north and have a look, you will be impressed and have no need to keep looking. |

I lived all over Canada and no matter what they tell you, we have our fare share of idiots. The less dense the place you will live, the better life quality you will get. If you must live in a big city, try to stay clear of Edmonotone. Toronto city worker sometimes don't even bother picking up garbage's for months so I'd stay clear of that place also. |

Thinking of the Vancouver or Toronto area. Quoting: HillcrestI've lived in both cities. Toronto is way easier to get started in. They're both expensive places to live - but Vancouver is way costlier and there's fewer jobs. Vancouver's mountains are nice but half the time it's too rainy or foggy to see them. The beaches nearby are cold and dirty - a real letdown if you're used to Cali or Florida. With Toronto there's lots of other nearby cities in case you decide it isn't for you. London, ON and Ottawa are nice. Hamilton has parts that are really nice, plus it's cheap & close to Toronto. St. Catharines is trashy but still convenient. Also easy to get to Buffalo airport if you want to fly home at all. Also the property crime rate in Vancouver is crazy - tons of junkies there. If you like a druggy culture you'll like Vancouver but if you don't you're better off in Toronto. The nightlife is way better in TO. British Columbia has a stupid licensing system so you have to be 'in' with the party circuit. Again, if you're not into hard drugs it's a lot harder. There's more variety of restaurants in Toronto though you can't beat Van for Chinese food. For nature, Vancouver has the forest, skiing and snowboarding - so it's better if you're into that but if it's cycling or just nice places to walk than Toronto is way better. Both cities are overbuilt with condos though and both places are ripe for a severe real estate crash. |

There was a solid month where it was so foggy you could barely see the end of the block and it drizzeled straight through June, save for about a week or two here and there. Only a trip to Thailand that year saved my sanity. The summers are sometimes drier, but el nino just happened so OP would have missed the dry period. Also, Vancouver is NOT 'West Coast'. Vancouver Island is mostly old people (Victoria) or trailer trash rednecks with a few island pockets here and there of sixties-era hippies. Vancouver claims to be laid back but most people there are really uptight, either hard-core yuppies or hard-core bums, and avoid eye contact. I still have a lot of friends who live there and they all feel the same way. |

It's beautiful, clean, orderly, personable, economical, the people are friendly, and the culture is fantastic (everything that the US should be and is not). Good luck getting in. You must be honest and clean (background check) and most importantly, you must have a skill that is currently lacking there to even be considered. Travel back and forth is a piece of cake, but actually moving there is every bit as hard as it should be to move to the US. |

I live in Toronto and the cost of living and the average jobs don't meet up. Unless you have a second income from a spouse, you'll be in trouble. Transportation in Toronto sucks. If you don't work in your really local vicinity, you'll be fucked. Lots of people so if you are coming from L.A., you will get sick of it here. People are really rude too. I don't know where all these people are seeing friendly Canadians. There is a huge amount of immigration so if you are not used to that, it could be an issue. I don't mind it but i knew people who have left because of it. Their building smelled like "spices" and hated it. Canada is terribly overrated and the jobs are NOT that plentiful in Toronto. You better have a good list of top degrees and solid work experience or you'll be out of luck. Many post grads are working at supermarkets or other minimum jobs due to lack of opportunties. I went to a job ad for a call centre for 50 position and there was a total of 1,400 applicants, mostly immigrants. Please think twice about coming here. It's NOT the hype or Oasis from America you think it will. It has it's ups, like healthcare and a few other things but unless you come from money or have some to put a business up, I'd stay away. |

If you think coming from the states with a degree in some random field will guarantee you a good salary job, think again. I worked in a data entry area of a company for a while and most have masters in chemistry or veterinary medicine and are pushing papers around making very low wages. Not to mention the student loans here are a death sentence. Make sure you know what you are doing before coming to Canada. The only good thing about it is if you claim refugee status, you get like 3000 a month from the government for living and get to mootch for a long time. |
