A cockatoo. Birds have personalities like people. All different. Depends on the bird I guess.

Are you scared of it? Do you stiffen up? They can sense the fear which will cause them to tense up and be nervous too.

I have an African grey that I have had for 11 years, since she was just weaned. I trust her completely to only bite my fingers if I play too aggresively with her, but I would never suggest a medium size to large parrot you do not know completely to have access to your face........ I'm just sayin! They would probably not go for your eyes, but they could definately put a hurting on you at a moments notice..... even if they seem to be OKAY with it. They are just as moody as people......If you know what I mean.

Cockatoos are VERY affectionate and loving birds. They LOVE attention and interaction. Start off moving VERY slowly, sudden movement startles them which could lead to a nip. Let it get used to you, you get used to it at a safe distance and just RELAX.

YES - The bird makes me mildly nervous ONLY because I wonder if he would go for the eyes. Other than that, I am fearless.

LOL....In a split second huh? I know what you're saying. I have an african grey I am fine with. But get me near a macaw and I'm scared too. Big strong beaks.

I have a cockatoo...she lets the kids wrap her in a blanket and hold her like a baby, dances to Aretha Frankiln, attempts to sing Opera, loves to "help" me in the kitchen and says quite a few things, her favourite word being MOM. She chases the dog, TERRIFIES the cat and screams bloody murder for an hour a day...(cockatoos do this)When she is on my shoulder she often preens my hair and my eyelashes....but is EXTREMELY gentle in doing so. She has NEVER EVER hurt the kids, the cat, the dog or myself. It is POSSIBLE that the bird would go for your eyes but NOT necessarily to PECK them...thats why you should start out slowly with it and get to know one another FIRST.
