support a deflationary implosion!

Buy nothing, and hoard your cash! (not in a bank)

Or simply pay for items with cash, locally, rather then buying from big retailers.

Re: buy american this christmas
I understand the sentiment, and I see the pros, but I also can't help but see the cons as well.

There are a huge amount of foreign companies that are based in the US and use US employees to assemble and/or package here before final shipping. I used to work for one of those companies. You could be putting those Americans out of work and hurting the communities that rely on them.

Another area to think about is the US shipping trade. It's takes lots and lots of trucks to move those foreign products from the ports to the shelves...lots of American Trucking Companies....American Truckers - you could be putting those Americans out of work and hurting the communities that rely on them.

And as distasteful as the general idea of Wal-mart itself is they employee an awful lot of people in this country. Cashiers, Warehouse Workers, Mechanics, Stock People, Data Entry, Accountants, Lawyers, Regulators, Truck Drivers, Insurance Handlers, Human Resource, yada, yada, yada - you could be putting those Americans out of work and hurting the communities that rely on them.

We shouldn't think in terms of only Black & White when most issues are really swamped in Grey.

and even better
buy from people in your locality
bring the money back home
if you buy something from China
the money goes to China
and stays there

What a great idea you have here. Can I take this
a little further? The following link w/pic is
a street vendor I know on campus at U of M
(Montana). He will be homeless in 2 weeks
as jobs are disappearing. He is a sweet guy
and makes cool craft jewelry. Check our
his tiny little web page--and get a Xmas
gift for someone you love and also help
a real artist avoid a homeless Xmas in MT!

newspaper covering our street vendors--they
are all hurting this winter! Godblessuseveryone!

Re: buy american this christmas
Better yet make your own Christmas gifts....

Baked goods, candles, soap, jewelry hf xmas

Give time.... help family or a friend with a project.

Christmas isn't about how much stuff from China we can buy... it's about spending time with family and friends.

Another idea is to volunteer time to help the homeless. Better to give than receive

Buy American? I tried that for 40 years... didn't work.

Tell your "Buy America" theory to GM.... when they close their factories in Russia to help support American workers, then I'll worry about buying American.

Americans need to make home shops and make their own items from quilts to furniture. Then put a sign outside and sell it as yard sale stuff. Believe me those yard sales are drawing big crowds these days.

Re: buy american this christmas
Some of these things may have already been listed if so sorry for the repeats!

Give to a charity in a friend or family members name
. They are really going to be hurting now...

Arts & Craft shows. Most schools or churches have them this time of year look in the news paper or watch for signs. You wouldn't be able to buy for everyone there but it is a good place for mom and grandma gifts LOTS of girlie stuff. Sometimes you can find a guy that makes beautiful hand made wooden toys..

THRIFT stores. I have had more then one Christmas that I was thankful they were there. One year it was the only place I bought gifts...

Make something from your heart, food is always welcome. If you don't think the kids would care about that maybe wrap up a box with all the suff to make their favorite candy cookies and a note to make it together...

put together a scrape book of pictures they may have never seen. Or a REALLY nice picture of them or their family...(MAKE the frame)

Give a gift of time. if you say all my kids want for the Christmas is computer, x-box stuff. Give them a family board game and TEACH them how to love it. You come with the gift...

A gift of an evening...Take your partner out to an event or place he/she would love to go to that you ALWAYS say no to...And act like you LOVE it!!! LOL

Families with young children, get together with other parents and swap unwanted good toys. Make it an evening out for the parents NO kids allowed...

See if you can buy art work from students from the high school. You would be amazed at some of the work they do...

I can go on and on about this.

This NEED to be a national event...These are things everyone is going to have to get used to. Our lives are changing and everyone (kids included) are going to have to except it. It doesn't mean our lives are going to be any less happy because we don't have the latest what-not!

One year when I was little and my dad was out of work my mom made my baby doll a BEAUTIFUL new dress and put her under the tree in it. I was just was excited to see her in this new dress as I would have been to get a new doll.

One of the things I have never figured out and kind of bugs me is why they started selling Barbie dolls with different outfits on them. Why do little girls have to have boxes of barbie dolls instead of one or two like it started out and a case with pretty little outfits and shoes that you bought seperate from the doll?

Side note: I went to the mall this weekend. Concord Mills in Charlotte....I can't believe all the people there. I was shocked! It took me 25 minutes to get into the parking lot. People were buying things like this (it was cute) computerized golden lab puppy..$179!!!...Good grief, some people of no clue what is going on!
