Their quilts are fantastic and they make yummy snacks. Quoting: starlight_afarUnfortunately there aren't any Amish around central Texas. An Amish quilt will set you back at least $1500 around here. I used to live in PA. I miss those farmstands. The Orignal. Please don't request stalking. I'm just not that into you. |

Philly Girl User ID: 541429 United States 11/16/2008 01:30 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I understand the sentiment, and I see the pros, but I also can't help but see the cons as well. There are a huge amount of foreign companies that are based in the US and use US employees to assemble and/or package here before final shipping. I used to work for one of those companies. You could be putting those Americans out of work and hurting the communities that rely on them. Another area to think about is the US shipping trade. It's takes lots and lots of trucks to move those foreign products from the ports to the shelves...lots of American Trucking Companies....American Truckers - you could be putting those Americans out of work and hurting the communities that rely on them. And as distasteful as the general idea of Wal-mart itself is they employee an awful lot of people in this country. Cashiers, Warehouse Workers, Mechanics, Stock People, Data Entry, Accountants, Lawyers, Regulators, Truck Drivers, Insurance Handlers, Human Resource, yada, yada, yada - you could be putting those Americans out of work and hurting the communities that rely on them. We shouldn't think in terms of only Black & White when most issues are really swamped in Grey. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 447567they'd be able to count their profits in pennies! I doubt this very seriously! If we don't retreat from this global concept no one here will have enough left to buy even at Walmart prices. As I have said before for globalization to work it requires that we VERY SIGNIFICANTLY reduce our standard of living in order to make it work. If it does work development of underdeveloped nations etc. it will take perhaps a 100 years before they reach the level where their people reach the capabilities to sustain market growth which supports their economies until that time the West will have to buy the goods produced with no money to do so! How brilliant is that? |
