"Nov. 19, 2008: An international team of researchers has discovered a puzzling surplus of high-energy electrons bombarding Earth from space. The source of these cosmic rays is unknown, but it must be close to the solar system and it could be made of dark matter. I don't understand what this means. Do you have a credible Website you could share that clearly outline the impact on earth, humans, wildlife? (or could you share more details about what you believe will happen)
I'm guessing all that radiation is what is causing my hair to fall out (I am not on chemo and there is no other reason for it).
What can we expect from this???

Perhaps... but it will depend on what you are thinking for... all... it could be even just the opposite, as Earth cycles are quite cyclical and space radiation is probably not so... cyclical!

Well, considering that this is the fourth 5+ EQ at nearly the same location in one day (depth can't be determined, so they give it a 10km default) - I think this qualifies as a EQ storm that has possible implications for the magnetic heliosphere, and plate tectonics. (IMHO)
Since the earth's core is basically a big spinning magnet and movement of the earth's crust (plates) is caused by magma subduction (motion of fluid like in a lava lamp), and the plates ride the crest of the subduction zone along the magnetic field... starting to see the picture yet?
Now... why would a 5+ EQ at the magnetic north pole be cool?
Is there any coorelation between previous EQ at the magnetic north pole and other earth events?

+ oh, that´s not what actually happens... crustal movement is not exactly... movement, just the Earth expanding and opening through the oceanic rifts (mainly)... overconsideration/overwaging of "subduction" by most geologist is a major abstraction and a fixed aberration for science. Continental margins fit at 99% on an about 50% diameter prior Earth, it all started to expand quickier about 500 million years ago... just as life got complex! which i think is not a coincidence, of course. Magma (not emerged molten material) probably creates convection movements... but much deeper in the Earth and they couldn´t push the plates. Just imagine the relatively thin oceanic plates being pushed against the hard rock beneath continental plates... they will break everywhere before even coming down them! and curiously this is not the case, and the margins where they meet (where major subduction was supposed to be) show an almost vertical profile with earthquakes in some places... going on at more than 350 km and even 800 km in South America. Subduction is local at most. (Great science works: Carey, James Maxlow, Scalera and others, look forward)

As far as I've watched and studied them, no there isn't in general a connection between EQ's at the mag north and elsewhere, but there is a connection between EQ's and volcanoes at these levels, especially in known volcanic areas.
I thought that volcanic activity was associated with harmonic earthquakes (magma movement) whereas these don't have that signature, but appear more tectonic. Is that a fair statement?
I did notice by looking at the satellite map that it appears that the magnetic pole just happens to be over a joint in the crust. Actually, it looks more like a Phi symbol (to put the feature into words) where the EQ happened. And you're right, it's right along the same line as an active volcanoes.

Geogal, yes there is an evident connection between tectonic and volcanic activity... much more, i would think of them as part of the same process in many ways, although there could be local volcanism such as that which happens in some hot spots which is somewhat farther from overall tectonism... and potentially related to (hypothetical) magmatic plumes.
There is also an evident connection between gravitational/electromagnetical forces and volcanotectonism it seems... when the stresses relax and there are changes in the distribution of the lithospheric masses there comes increments in volcanotectonism. I.e. dec/2004 major uplift on Sumatra/Java trench, being at the end of the year and also on a decline on solar activity & a passage of Venus.
I think this is far from being understood, specially with misconceptions such as subduction blinding most researchers!
Volcanoes on the northern hemisphere (at least) have a trend to erupt more violently or being more active in december/january... and BTW, also with the Moon above!

Well, i don´t know for sure, but it´s among the most obvious things.
I think that it might be related with the Earth being closer to the Sun in first instance, but also for forces being exerted over Earth, being more differential (cause the tilt to the ecliptic) in winter months, although then the southern hemisphere could be expected to also present a rise on activity & another rise should be expected for the north hemisphere summer (south hemisphere winter) as well (although then the distance to the Sun will be slighly larger). I once made a relation of major earthquakes and very large eruptions (limited information for eruptions, of course), and most of them (about 85%) falls either on the end of the year or on the summer, but mainly at the end of the year. There could be other reasons... any suggestion?

and the emergency is about western part of the country here.
The storm left 2,000 Russian towns and villages with 250,000 residents without electricity, Interfax news service reported. In St. Petersburg, a driver was killed after a tree fell on his car. ) |

First big EQ striking the North pole region this weeek. when you hit 7.0 scale is something unusual for this place.
