I'm with you. Let's bail. We call sell drinks to the tourists on the beach in the Caymans, maybe take their pictures with the turtles and the stingrays. And no malprac premiums, either......

I am a Doc too and have been since 1974! I was trained in England so didn't go into the Profession for the money. I actually love what I do but I am retiring in 2112 AND I CAN"T WAIT!. The problem is not the reimbursement. The Great Spirit always provides and I pay a company 6% of the collectable to do the billing and wrangle with the Insurance companies. My biggest problem is the Hospital Administrators who in recent years have become outright hostile and though they have NO CLUE in regards what I do they like to think they do! I am hospital based and unfortunetely can't function without them. I sometimes wonder where they find these guys. The most recent one, who is as ignorant as the rest ,told me a few months ago that I needed to have a fire lit under me! What a F******G joke! I havn't seen him since. Noone ever says thank you any more except the patients. MONEY is the bottom line for these administrators and they don't care about the quality of medical care at all ,but can't wait to designate an area A CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE if there is money to be made. We have more Centers of Excellence and Institutes in our town than you can shake a stick at!Medicine is not what it was and to my mind the standard of care has gone way down over recent years. We are in an age of technological overkill and most physicians have forgotten how to think. It is sad and I can't wait to leave. If I do do anything medically related in the future it will be in the field of Holistic care.I think I could really do something useful there as I am intuitive and certainly could do the job without an administrator to torture me!!!! hf

Administrators see you as a production line worker now, not a healer. How many people can you see -- keep it to a 15" consult......more per hour. Like you said, it isn't what it used to be! Sucks, doesn't it ?

doctors have more power than average citizens and can really create change if they came together for the common good. they're being cowards.

Re: WTF?! Half of U.S. Doctors Want to Quit, Work in Another ProfessionQuote

I wouldn't say that they are cowards. Some are quite happy with the status quo for a variety of different reasons. Others including myself are burned out. It really would be very difficult to change the system. It would take dedicated leaders and a majority of dissatisfied docs. It isn't possible to go on strike as patients would suffer. Really it is harder than you think.A good National Heathcare policy would be good for the majority but others would not be able to get their heart and liver and bone marrow transplants at the drop of a hat. I really don't know what the answer is but I do know this, a patient should never have to go without the standard of care because they can't pay. Some of the things I have seen would make you weep. Thankfully because I have a Holistic bent I can help with alternatives that are not so expensive, that is the least that I can do. hf
