401K and gold
Just curious - My 401k has lost a little over 40% of its value. I'm young and have it fully invested in stock.

Has anyone taken out their 401k and decided to purchase gold? Is this a stupid maneuver?

you can sell you stock and keep it in the 401k and then buy the ticker GLD which is a gold stock tied directly to the price of gold and backed by gold.

Ah, so what about physical gold? I'm not looking to fully invest. I'd think 10-15% of my savings would be reasonable, yes?

I have taken loans against my 401K and purchased gold with it. Don't get carried away because you never know what might happen. But don't let anyone tell you not to buy gold either. Good luck!

Re: 401K and gold
Last September, I took all of my bank of america stock (inheritance from my grandfather) and converted it into gold. I know that investing 100% in something is extremely risky, but I'm young and it was free money to begin with so I figured what the hell. Regardless, it's had ups and downs and somedays I feel like kicking myself for not selling when it was at 1000, but then I just look at what bank of america stock has done. While gold is just a little over what I bought it at, bank of america has lost 80% of its value. So while I'm skeptical that it is going through the roof as some gold bugs will tell you, it certainly has preserved the value of my investment.

Re: 401K and gold
Absoloutely take some of your 401 and invest in Gold & also Silver.

You don't have to listen to what anyone says, just search Google for Gold Prices, or you can go to our site and check them out: [link to goldcodirect.com]

Gold & Silver have always continually gone up over time.

Yes, sometimes they do fall dramatically, but they always recover, and exceed where they were before they fell.

Don't think of the Gold or Silver falling as you losing money, but as opportunity to buy more at a great price.

A lot of professionals in the precious metals markets are predicting gold to reach $2000 & beyond in the next 12 months. While they are also predicting Silver to reach $50 and beyond in the next 12 months.

With the recent round of Quantitative Easing announced (QE3) this is very doable, and more than likely it will happen.

I did it right after they crashed the market and stole 40% of my 401K in 2008. Best move I ever made.

Got my money back and some.

Are you saying you cashed out, or borrowed? I've been looking all over for any way to cash out, because I can't afford the payments if I borrow.

Cashed out 2 old ones. Cost me another 20%. Pissed me off when they screwed me over so I figgered I'll screw them and they can't use my money any longer.

Okay, so they were ones from jobs you no longer have and didn't roll over. My problem is that the job is needed... though depending on the election, might be gone anyway after the first of the year.
