My opinions

Fix treadmill: no. You can get a good cardio workout in other ways without spending the money on a belt.

tablet PC: no. You say the kind you want are hard to find and before you DO find one, you may have spent the money anyway, on internet porn sites or something less interesting.

tickets: no, if you're not in danger of having an arrest warrant issued.

snowboarding stuff: no. You'll feel guilty spending the money on 'fun', when times are so tough and bound to get tougher.

survival food: yes, but maybe not the stuff you have listed. The thing with food stockpiles, if they aren't freeze-dried or dehydrated, they have to be rotated as they have expiration dates within a year or so.

Nah, i'm not into the whole freeze-dried or dehydrated thing yet. I would only keep this stockpile for 6-12 months, then use it or give it away, and restock.

If I was creating an underground cache, I would definitely go the freeze-dried & dehydrated way... I don't think there is any urgency for that... but I do see an urgency to have enough food on hand for at least 3-6 months for myself, family and friends.

I chose this food specifically because it lasts a long time, and pound for pound it is the most nutritious and most balanced possible. Also, there is no prep and they're portable.

Your right about the other stuff too, except that damn treadmill belt, it's really bothering me, in the summer there are so many other cardio replacements, rollerblading, hockey, hiking, swimming - winter not so much.

I guess i'll join the dozens of other GLPers in creating a temporary food cache.

Oh yeah...

This was the food I was going to have ordered...

All together it will run about $250-$500 bucks. I will probably get everything at wholesale or at cost through a business connection, so $500 of food would be more like $1000 at retail cost...

Food stockpile:

100-150 Cans of Amy's Organic Soup, Beans, Lentils, Chilli:

:amyorganic:

[link to www.amys.com]

This stuff is really good, it's quite well balanced with vegetable protein, carbs and fat. Plus it tastes good.

6 boxes - 96 Larabars:

:larabar:

[link to www.fubaohealthstore.com]

These nut/fruit bars are delicious. There is no added crap in them, and they're not processed, so they're incredibly nutritious.

4 Containers of Vega Whole Food Health Optimizer (About 120 Servings, pea, hemp, brown rice protein powder with tons of daily vitamins)

:vega:

[link to sequelnaturals.com]

Then I will get staples like Sugar, Brown Rice Flour, extra bottles of water.

100% stockpile food.

seriously dude, by the end of winter it will not even be a question.

but you food shopping list ain't so happy. you'd do much better going for dry bulk beans, rice, lentils, oats, corn grits in 5# food grade pails. learn how to seal them with dry ice if your gonna sock em away for extra long. but my opinion is you won't have to bother.

PLEASE go with the food tho', cuz if you can't feed yourself when tshtf sumbuddy else is gonna have to, yeah? and thats not how you want to be...

The only heirloom seeds i've got is Cannabis. I don't want that species going endangered so I have plenty of Mazar I Sharif heirloom genetics from a British Soldier who was in Afghanistan.

:)

I will definitely collect other species.

Yup, totally... I will go for the bulk beans, rice, lentils and dry goods in a few more weeks after I develop storage techniques... right now im concerned about having access to quick nutrition in case of hyperinflation or something....

I will definitely create a long term storage cache with the stuff you recommended...

all those dried goods will do no good without plenty of clean safe water or a way to get it ... just something to ponder ... make sure you have some water stored for emergancy as fema asks of all americans .... and a way to filter clean water from bad water

Stockpile food(Useful)
Don't stockpile food
Snowboarding pass & gear(NOT essential)
Pay insurance tickets & fees(mandatory?)
Fix treadmill (NOT essential)
Old Skool HP Tablet PC (NOT essential)
Blank (View Results)
Its either insurance or Food, consider what insurance
gives, and if its not significant, stockpile food.
Having a decent stockpile for 2 months wouldn't hurt,
its people who buy tons of food are likely to lose(in case they miss their "dooom" or food expires/rots away)

Yeah totally. I'm not a Vegan or anything, but I really like Larabars because there is nothing extra added in them. That Pecan Pie flavor is soooooo good... It's just raw Pecans and Dates mixed together.

Amy's Kitchen is really really good too. Their organic beans and soup is so easy to add to recipes.

And Vega is hands down the best supplement/protein anyone can take, it's like the only non-dairy one on the market.

I like having room mates with food too. :)

I agree.

Pecan Pie rocks -- that's my favorite... followed closely by Chocolate coconut.

Speaking of chocolate, you gotta make sure you have lots of chocolate in your stockpile. Even if you don't eat it... 'cause it'll be a great item for bartering!

I keep telling people, dry rice and beans are stupid, because they waste your drinking water, and if anything it's bottled water you should store and a water filter and a book on survival poaching. C'mon you guys, do you really expect a shortage of rice & beans? I mean, grow the hell up. If you really expect a day like that to come, you're better off with the filter and book and mobility, even if it's a bicycle.

I'd maybe keep your gas tank topped off, too. I can't do it here because I get siphoned by meth tweekers. But you're better off preparing to bug out in an emergency than lining your coffin with dried beans stored in nitrogen and dry ice and all the other lunacy the Servants Of The Holy Bean keep blithering.

I don't know how much they told you it would cost to repair your treadmill, but thriftstores sell all that exercise equipment for $15-$45. I've bought exercise bikes for $6-$12, and all the exercise stuff sold on tv usually ends up there too.

Anyway, water. If water doesn't run out, get sprouting seeds.

Ironically, the tastiest sprouts are lentils and peas, and the cheapest lentils and peas are in the dry bean section of grocery stores, so if everyone loves their dry bean fetish so much, they should at least get some sproutable ones.

Instead of barrels of oats, keep something portable that doesn't get bugs in it: granola bars.

And have you considered simply keeping spare cash on hand instead of looking for stuff to spend it on right away like a sheep?

You're how old - Are you a child

Buy food. Sell snowboard to pay for insurance and tkts - Get rid of treadmill and get out there and walk/run, move, breath - It's not cold out once you start moving. Hell use those snowboard pants and jacket, remember you're selling your snowboard to pay for your insurance and tkts you won't be needing them for boarding right now. (This is called tough love honey, it's your wake up call.) - As for your PC what's wrong with the one you have now. It works?

I have to tell you the facts = Granola bars can get or have had salmonella. Unless reputable survival store sold them.

Bars are only as strong as they wrappers. They can crumble to shit pile. Leavea mess for ants.

Be sure the granola is loose not a bar and that has hard pieces, not have a honey glaze to leave the scent all over you for wild animals to get real interested with sweet shit like bears and dogs nuisance so no sleep for you or peace of mind.

Wrappers are also noisy and anything wrapped = awkward to store.

I recommend barley and oats meal that small and dainty rather than the huge steel cut. Those don't take but some rain water to over ad swell for gruel.

Rain and puddles will be around probably for most to use of those grains. Get used to gruel :) thats the future meal.
