I Want To Help A Family This Christmas
I am looking for a family I can help this coming Christmas.

Last year I helped a young woman with 4 kids.
It was more of a blessing to me then I could have imagined.

Last year I asked for donations or gifts from my friends and local businesses. I had a car load.

I urge you to find someone you can help. Go to your local foodbank or all a local womans shelter.
There are plenty who need help.

Re: I Want To Help A Family This Christmas
that is very cool

the company i now work for does this every year, they are actually very community centered, which is nice

the food banks here in michigan are absolutely swamped with requests, there are so many people hurting right now, thanksgiving is this week and they always need volunteers to help serve food at churches and missions

if you want your life to get better, stop thinking about yourself and help others, it works

money is tight for EVERYONE i know right now, which can make for a stressful holiday season, but it can also make one get creative, a well thought out handwritten letter can mean more to a loved one than anything else in the world

i have been buying small gifts all year as i find things on clearance

Re: I Want To Help A Family This Christmas
we do this every year. its a fine feeling after wards. we started out several yrs ago with filling brown grocery bags of food, and little stockings of candy knocking on doors in the hood, running away and watching them open the door and see the bags and go wtf? then smile and go inside.

but the hood has become notorious for thefts in nanno seconds. so we now just go to homes of the elderly, disabled and families we know who are struggling, knock on their doors and hand them the bags.

We did this through an agency one year. When we delivered the stuff, we found out that the "single parent with one child" that I helped out had a Master's degree and was working as an accountant for Dell Computer!!! She made more than we did (hubby & I were both working part time at that time)!!!

Our "Christmas Bureau" help center has no income limits and requires no proof of income. I will NEVER give through that agency again.

Why do people have kids they can't afford and then
need to ask for hand outs at christmas? I raised
four boys as a waitress and never thought to beg
for gifts from strangers. Some holidays were
plusher than others but always lots of love and
tradition. Sorry to be a grinch, but I see it
all the time. Yesterday I ran into a woman I knew
long time ago, ten kids! Then said my brother
was her secret santa or whatever you call it.
Does anyone have any pride anymore??

WOW ...

The person I helped was basically homeless, no money, nothing. Her husband beat her in front of the kids.

She was at the womans shelter. Then moved with a friend for christmas ... hiding from the husband. It was sad and broke my heart.

pride is highly over rated, humility is a lot easier on the soul

i do not believe many people enjoy asking for hand outs, my life has been all over the map economically, shit happens, it is not the childrens fault

So when a man who has worked all his life gets laid off due to the credit crunch it's his fault?

How do you think he feels telling his kids that they can't have the latest video games for christmas?

What are you? Some kind of robot?

newest video games? Are you serious? Kids NEED a roof
over their heads, food, clothes and mostly, love and
hugs from their parents. If you feel bad you can't
buy the latest material things, that is your EGO.
Take those kids to the park and spend some quality
time with them that they will always remember.

They're gonna love you for taking them to the park on Christmas day, and not give them any presents.

We live in a materialist world, and a technologically advanced society. For now, that's the way it is. Kids want the same as their friends have; as long as they appreciate that you worked hard to buy those presents, and look after them, it's fine.

Re: I Want To Help A Family This Christmas
I am not making my point clear. My children turned
out BETTER because they weren't over loaded with
material things. And when they recieved something-
they APPRECIATED it. I've seen many spoiled brats
with too many presents and those parents were not
doing their child any favors. Children think
they have to have something because their friends
do? No. Not true. Feed, clothe and love those
children, the rest is just gravy.

Well, little Timmy has also been that broke child. He has been the child who wore the same pair of pants to school day after day, even if they were too small cause Mom couldn't afford new ones. He is also the boy that had to wait for 4 months for a haircut. He is the boy that sits and watches movies with Mom and curls up in bed and tells his secrets.

Love doesn't come wrapped in a gift. It comes from the caring and soul level joy that you feel for one another. The joy you get from looking in the eyes of a 16 year old boy and remembering his face when he was toddler. When you remember that he wanted to marry you when he was 4. When you remember the single little daisy he picked and presented to you so proudly when he was 6.

That is love. We have a lot of that in our house. Hope you do too, it is priceless.
