| cowardlyMe User ID: 20395699 11/17/2012 07:42 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | We did this through an agency one year. When we delivered the stuff, we found out that the "single parent with one child" that I helped out had a Master's degree and was working as an accountant for Dell Computer!!! She made more than we did (hubby & I were both working part time at that time)!!! Quoting: IllumiNaughty Our "Christmas Bureau" help center has no income limits and requires no proof of income. I will NEVER give through that agency again. This is what I'm afraid of whenever I give. Do you mind telling us the agency? |

The poor can't even afford it. People donate things thinking they are helping the poor, but the Salvation Army is getting greedy on donations for the poor. I was in there and there was a dresser they had piced 350.00. They had an old stained t shirt for 6.00. You can get a new one at walmart for 5.00 on clearance. There was a frame I liked, priced $6.00, and when I turned it over, the price said 2.00 at walmart. I think this is greedy of them, and I told them so. I started thinking of a way to help the poor, and also everyone else. I thought about opening up a place big enough to take in donations of cloths, furniture, food, ect. The only difference would be that people could come and get what they need for free, and people could donate their things there, but also get things they may want or need for free as well. We could take in donations for money to pay the bill for the price of the rent for the place, if the whole communities chipped in. If there was extra money, it would be to feed the poor. That way there would be no needy at all, and everyone would have what they really need to be happy. Faithful You are so right. Some of these thrift stores just get greedy. On donated crap no less. There's usually at least one good thrift store with decent prices in driving distance. You're idea is a good one but I have seen thrift stores try something close and it never works. You can't count on donations to pay the bills month to month or cover other overhead reliably. Thrift stores have to charge something, just out of sheer necessity, but many turn that around into something good. There's a nice local one that uses their proceeds to fund a food bank and Toys for Tots distribution near here. I used to think that until it was pointed out to me that the reason that the salvation army prices in their shops are expensive is because they need to raise lots of money to support all their various programs, like food for the poor, homeless shelters and they help addicts and the elderly, they have so many programs and running them is not cheap. caz |
| The Renkel Family User ID: 28753478 11/29/2012 11:03 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This is too user 541939. I am a mother to 5 fantastic kids that my husband and myself are having a hard time giving Christmas too due to me being laid off and not being able to find another job. Our car got repoed and we almost lost our house, our kids watch day in and day out as we struggle. They stress just like we do and feel bad to even ask for new shoes after theirs rip. My husband and I are a proud family and do not ask for help but during Christmas we want to see their faces as they see their presents. That is our greatest joy. I am sorry that parent like us have to ask for help once in awhile. Get a heart scrooge if you don't want to help families in need then don't but don't hate the people that do have hearts. As for the people that are going to help the women with the 16yr old son. Thank you. It's people like you that make people like us have a little bit of faith that things will get better |
