I don't really know what I'm waiting on before beginning major preps. Maybe that would be a cool question.. What sign/signal is anyone waiting for before they begin preps full-go?
I guess if any of the following happen, that's when I'll run-not-walk to costco and the ammo store:

1)gun fights between border patrol and mexican narco's as they come across the border in large numbers.
2)major earthquake
3)terrorist/ff attack
4)if nukes go off anywhere in the world
5)if it looks like Bush won't be leaving come Jan 19th

Calibob, first, about the filly, congratulations, that is a bright spot for sure. Glad you could get her rehabilitated and set up as a broodmare.

I don't like the sound of your situation much. Family ties are tough, you do have to be there for your dad - would your dad ever move? When you left the forum for a while I knew you had family troubles and a loss, didn't realize it was your mom, so sorry to hear that. Had a close call with my mom this fall - she's okay but omg I wasn't ready to deal with that! Freaked me out.

I would guess your situation in the auto finance industry is not very dependable Calibob. Hate to say it but things really are freezing up as you say. I have a banker friend and I hear all kinds of things from him. Sometimes when he is talking about what's going on, I think to myself "This is almost as good as GLP!" in doom measurement, you know.

As far as running to costco and the ammo store, Please Calibob, do not wait. Go and get yourself some supplies, do it while there isn't any throng of people, while you're not in a hurry, while the cards are still working, the power is still on, the shelves are full, stuff is cheap and available.

I started stocking a pantry in earnest (adding to it) this summer, I didn't feel like going to the store, but I would make myself go, to get things on sale, I would drag canned goods home on a luggage cart, I would make many trips on foot. I just bought a whole bunch of dry bulk food like brown rice, lentils, etc, the other day because it was on sale. I am running out of room (ran out a while ago).

Go now, don't wait, start getting extra of all the stuff you regularly use around the house, normal everyday food items, just buy more than what you usually buy, get extra. Get a lot of rice because it is cheap and it will keep. Get a lot of herbs and spices, that stuff is all imported, the price could go up, the supply could dry up, I have so much tea now. and all kinds of herbs.

Man the border is getting ugly, I have been hearing about it, all the killings, I am sorry you live so close to that. If something happened do you have a reliable vehicle that you keep topped up with gas and keep camping supplies in the trunk so you could go get your dad and get out of Dodge if you had to? If something ever happens don't leave it too late.

I will put this in bold

We were all supposed to have learned something from Katrina.
