I pray that we're going to make it through this horrible freezing spell and that we won't have to burn too much fossil fuels keeping our residences above our normal ambient indoor temperature of 68-70*F further exacerbating global warming. |

Cat Man User ID: 457876 United States 12/10/2008 04:41 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Couldn't that very cold weather in Siberia just as well head east instead of west? I mean if it goes east maybe they could get one of those blizzards like they had somewhere back around 1885 that paralyzed the east coast and completely shut New York down for over a weak. |

Unless you visit, there is simply no way to describe the total landmass of this much-maligned area of the world. To give you some perspective, consider the fact that Siberia is bigger than Canada, has more natural resources than any area of the world, spans nine time zones and contains the largest plain in the world. One of the best ways to give you an impression of the size of Siberia is to discuss the infamous gulag system. When one thinks of a gulag or prison, visions of guards with guns, electrified fences and so on come to mind. In Siberia, most of the gulags did not have fences or any kind of barrier to keep people in. With freezing temperatures in the winter, huge rivers of mud and water in the summer, Siberia formed a natural gulag for many of the prisoners. If a prisoner escaped from a gulag, there was simply nowhere to go. The closest population center might be 1,000 miles away. “Siberia” comes from the Mongolian word “sibir”, which means "sleeping land." In the early 1700's, Siberia became a place of exile. It continued to be "the last stop" for criminals and political exiles throughout much of the 20th century. The city of Chita is in fact known as the “City of Exiles.” |

"With those type of temperatures the arctic air mass has to spill somewhere. Our answer of the exact track will become more clear this week. All residents in the mountain communities should prepare this week for very cold, winter weather, with snow." Quoting: OstriaIts not so cold in western Siberia check the weather stations [link to en.allmetsat.com] In eastern Siberia is colder [link to en.allmetsat.com] I believe that cold east Siberian air will push westwards towards Europe as December progresses. Most professional forecasters I've seen are alluding to a cold European winter from late December. It's been cold here since mid November, colder than for a long time at thos time of year with plenty of hard frosts, barely claering during the day. GW will be made to look silly in the months ahead, mark my words. |

But I cant find a comparison chart. Quoting: OstriaI can't find a definitive answer, but if that's -81 Celsius, that's going to be a new record. The lowest unofficial record was -77C for the region. Normally it averages around -15C. Either way, yeah, global warming isn't panning out the way it's supposed to. Shame, I stocked up on suntan lotion, too. ~ ~ "He who does not understand your silence will probably not understand your words." ~Elbert Hubbard |

Many are in + oC right now. So if it drops to -81oC it will be very sudden and very quick drop. It will be like an instant freeze. Anyway, in Greece the weather is still fine, I have my windows wide open! I dont remember having the open from mid-November on in earlier years. We expect cold weather, but we still dont see it coming! |
