Between last night and this morning, my OCD just kicked up. I'm begining to scratch the side of my head. Didn't even realize I was doing it til I said "ouch"!

Oh, no! LOL! I'm "clincally" diagnosed. And trust me, there was no "itch" involved. But much tension. I'm all too well aware of OCD! ;) You must be the change you wish to see in the world.

i touch my face, brush my hands through my hair look left and right and an assortment of other stupid stuff.
for instance .. the other day i felt like people were staring at me as i pumped gas. it made me nervous and i fidgeted about in an attempt to say "hey i'm just getting some gas here you fucking motherfucker, why don't you just die and leave me alone!! arrghh!!"
latter i feel like such a fool and realise the part i fail to miss in all that is that they are there just to pump gas and and eat crystal sandwiches . i'm the one watching them and questioning why they are really there. i'm the one afraid of them. i'm the scary one. |

The anxiety is really kicking in over here. The job situation is looking dire and with kids, it's worse. One has to think of their well being during all of this. Anyway, I have a little thing with germs... inside and outside of my body. That's a real pain in the ass right now :) Last week I picked at a tiny little bump on my wrist and became quite obsessed with it. Makes no sense.

A while later we got a surveillance system, and part of my job was to do a cursory glance at the new manager's shift, to make sure things were going alright (long story).
Anyway, I'm scanning the shift in fast forward, and she's there, and it took me a while to realize what she was doing.
One of her many OCD things was she had to touch every 6x6 tile in the back before she left the building. As other people were working and she didn't want them noticing, when somebody walked by or was standing on the next group of tiles (yes, I confirmed it, she touched them with her foot in exactly the same order every day), she's wander around a bit until they were done, then continue.
It usually took her 1-1/2 hours to leave, but once I figured it out, I usually set up jobs so she could get out of there faster. Of course, when she pissed me off, I'd make her leave (liability excuse), and she'd turn red with anger, but she couldn't really tell me why she was so mad.
Normally though, it was just funny to watch. I called it the "<her name> dance", cause that's what it looked like in fast forward.

ocd is just a coping mechanism. a lot of people have behaviours they play out to self-protect. they just don't tell you about it or even recognize it themselves.
whenever i express any of my ocd fears, my dh says that's ok, he has to leave the house a certain way or put his clothes on in a certain order, etc....
i'm the same way. its so exhausting!! i live 10 miles from work. there have been at least 5 times this past year where i was half way to work and turned around because i thought one of the doors might not be locked, or we forgot to put the doggie door up, or the kitten was not in his room or there wasn't water for the pets or I LEFT THE FLAT IRON ON AND PLUGGED IN! That time it was a really good thing I went back home. It had an automatic shut-off system that kicked in just as i opened the bathroom door. It was kind of hot and steamy in there.
Lately I have this one set of jewelry items that have become my "good luck" jewelry. I can't go to work without it! It's gotten so bad that if I want to wear other jewerly, I put the "good luck" jewelry in a ziplock baggie and carry it in my purse. AND after i heard that Coco Chanel was superstitiious and considered 5 her lucky number, i decided that 5 would be my lucky number, too.
Oh, and I always have baby wipes or disinfectant wipes nearby. I won't use anyone else's phone without wiping it off first and then when I give it back.
See? Aren't you just exhausted reading about ocd?? |

I regularly (like once a week) wipe down ALL the ceiling fans (yes, i have to use a ladder!) and I undo all the floor fans (we have 3) and I put them in the dishwasher to wash.
I also WASH OUT the kitchen trashcan once a week and the regular giant garbage can every 2 weeks.
The dog gets a bath once a week followed by a blow dry (outside! who needs dog fur in the house?).
No one comes in the house with their shoes on. Hopefully they'll get so annoyed by the rule that they'll stop coming over altogether. I can't believe how people don't realize they're shoes have been in GAS STATIONS, in public restrooms (with other peoople's pee on the floor), and filthy asphalt everywhere. How can it be ok to wear your shoes in the house knowing all that?? |

That's not really OCD though, that's just being fairly picky and clean.
OCD, like the example I posted, is something that hampers you. The lady in question had a number of quirks, and all of them came out at different stresses. Once I knew what they were and when they'd show up, I could plan around them, but at first I wanted to strangle her.
Some simple job would take 5-6 times longer to do, because she'd have to go through an elaborate ritual, like the browser thing mentioned above. Putting something in a bag was a 10-30 second process (for most people, less than a second), and it got slower the busier we were. I'd watch her bag something with a line of customers, then pull the item out, adjust it, then put it back in the bag, a couple times, as the customer started to get upset.
But, like I said, most of the time when we weren't busy, it was amusing, and she was alright as a person...provided you didn't do anything that upset her rituals. Then her face would turn red, she's start shaking, and borderline crying, and have to take a 15 minute break.
That's serious OCD. Before I dealt with her, I just assumed it was the odd quirks we all share, the occasional need to wash our hands a little extra, or tap something for no reason except to "balance" whatever we were doing. ~
