Anonymous Coward User ID: 572025 United States 12/13/2008 09:54 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm becoming vegetarian almost without trying. It just seems natural. I had a thin slice of deli turkey I could have done without today. Everything else was mainly grains. I had switched to soy from cow's milk, thinking I might have a reaction, but my symptoms come more from cheese and I'm fine on skim milk. So, I'm buying organic. Does anyone know if organic milk is cruelty free? I know it doesn't have the baddy hormones and stuff in there. I'm just afraid of eating too much soy. I seemed to have gained some weight, and I think the low fat dairy was helping me to burn fat. |

I seemed to have gained some weight, and I think the low fat dairy was helping me to burn fat. This is why I'm still debating milk. They do sell organic skim milk (there is this HUGE Natural Food Grocery Store Co-op by my house, I can get everything there). But I still don't know if the organic milk is as you put it, "cruelty free". Sometimes there is a description on the back of the milk box that explains how they treat their cows; see if that tells you anything Also, everyone else, I'm going to finish off that Pizza, but I'm going to give the other meat I have (I have some breakfast sandwiches, lunch meet, etc) to someone... I don't need anymore Monosodium Glutamate anyway. I'm also giving away my soup too... I can't even bare eating that anymore |

The yeast love it. Any more and it doesn't go so well; two drops is about right. Before 1980 iodine was the bread improver, however, since 1980 they use bromide. Bromide is an iodine mimic for the thyroid gland but doesn't do what Iodine does. Bromide is also part of chemtrails. In bread too, use millet. It's moreish and anticancer. |

Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 514538 United States 12/13/2008 10:49 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | So, OP, what's your problem with eating eggs from organic free-range chickens? Must confess that I can understand vegetarianism (although I don't practice it all the way) but this vegan stuff mystifies me. If an animal is well-cared for and well-fed, what can be wrong with eating products (like milk and eggs) that can be taken from it without killing it? Seriously, no one has ever 'splained that to me. Anyone care to try? Quoting: BluzGalWell, as I said in my first post, I really don't see anything wrong with eating eggs from organic free-ranged chickens |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 569069 United States 12/13/2008 11:09 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Eat the pizza unless you just can't do it emotionally. I pat you on the back for what you are doing and wish you well in your transition. I went thru the same experience not to long ago. I went through my kitchen and gave every last bit of food to the local food bank. Then tore up my yard and planted a garden. Little extreme I know but I actually feel better and am much happier. No more GMO, hormones, chemicals and it's fresh. I guess I'm what a vegitarian would call a select-a-tarian tho...I found it hard to avoid eggs - dairy was easy to substitute but eggs..not so much. Buy local and buy organic is the best advice. There is more to it than just the cruelty to the animals (even tho that should be enough to turn anyones stomach) there is also the dangers to the person consuming the meats that are factory farmed. Dangerous hormones and forced canablization to plump up the cows just makes avoiding meat a real no brainer. <hr> Speaking of no-brainer (pun intended) I would suggest avoiding dairy and all beef products all together if you can - cwd is a real risk even here in the states - [link to www.msnbc.msn.com] [link to www.foxnews.com] [link to www.foodconsumer.org] [link to www.america.gov] Hunted meats are at risk too (since you made the choice to go vegan I'm not saying you'd kill bambi) just sayin... - do a google search on CWD, CJD, MadCow and Mad Deer. Here is a snippet from the CDC: Chronic wasting disease (CWD) of deer and elk is endemic in a tri-corner area of Colorado, Wyoming, and Nebraska, and new foci of CWD have been detected in other parts of the United States. Although detection in some areas may be related to increased surveillance, introduction of CWD due to translocation or natural migration of animals may account for some new foci of infection. Increasing spread of CWD has raised concerns about the potential for increasing human exposure to the CWD agent. The foodborne transmission of bovine spongiform encephalopathy to humans indicates that the species barrier may not completely protect humans from animal prion diseases. Anonymous Coward User ID: 333302 United States 12/13/2008 11:26 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | A good thing to keep in mind OP as you make the transition is not to judge yourself. Take it one day at a time and be proud of every meal you eat that doesn't require a death, or saves a life! Every meal helps and is a potential victoy in itself. Also Almond milk is awesome, even more goodness than rice milk. Almonds are particularly alakaline which helps prevent you from becoming too acidic. Remember to be balanced and conscious, and to take it in your own time. There are no rules other than the decisions you are most comfortable with and feel right to you. Good luck and congrats! |
