Merry Christmas to all. There is hope in Christ. Things are looking scary, but remember that love can overcome. I still have hope in God and hope in people.

I've noticed, this Christmas season, that people are actually smiling at other people while shopping, and this without the wonderful Christmases past that gave us decorations on every street light and a lighted Christmas tree in every shop. Ignoring the birth of the Savior won't make our Christmases go away.

To all GLPers, my prayer for you:

May God give you
for every storm, a rainbow,
for every tear a smile,
for every care a promise,
and a blessing in each trial.

Merry Christmas, everyone!

Ok, so last week I had to give in, I couldn't take it one more second. I asked for help.

Let me explain. I work in a Doc's office, and before I landed this job the Doc was my Doc and still is. I was having chest pain, deep and constant pain. Three weeks had past and the pain stayed with me. WTF? I had the chest xray.
Something was there, in my left lung. I had the Cat Scan Saturday and worried all weekend, WTF?!!!

Today was the day, was it cancer? Was I on my way out like so many other young women I have seen get similar news lately? ( three within the last few months)

"Calcified Granuloma, no need for further testing"

I realize how fine the line is, man how terrified I have been. I love living, I love being me and I don't want to die. i had my Christmas miracle and I hope you all look at your lives and realize how precious everyday really is.

Strange that you mention "hijacking". Recommend that you do a Google search on the origins of Dec 25 beginning as a pagan holiday.

The point I am making by giving the following is that it is that the religious details are not as important as the love that is being shown in the posts on this thread.

Why December 25? For the church's first three centuries, Christmas wasn't in December—or on the calendar at all.

"...Not all of Origen's contemporaries agreed that Christ's birthday shouldn't be celebrated, and some began to speculate on the date (actual records were apparently long lost). Clement of Alexandria (c.150-c.215) favored May 20 but noted that others had argued for April 18, April 19, and May 28. Hippolytus (c.170-c.236) championed January 2. November 17, November 20, and March 25 all had backers as well.
A Latin treatise written around 243 pegged March 21, because that was believed to be the date on which God created the sun. Polycarp (c.69-c.155) had followed the same line of reasoning to conclude that Christ's birth and baptism most likely occurred on Wednesday, because the sun was created on the fourth day.
The eventual choice of December 25, made perhaps as early as 273, reflects a convergence of Origen's concern about pagan gods and the church's identification of God's son with the celestial sun. December 25 already hosted two other related festivals: natalis solis invicti (the Roman "birth of the unconquered sun"), and the birthday of Mithras, the Iranian "Sun of Righteousness" whose worship was popular with Roman soldiers..."
