Well...:) those dark beams that project in front of the jets are shadows.

I know it's hard to make sense out of that spacial relationship/equation.

No, it´s not, not in the example I gave you...I was standing on the ground seeing what I described above. I can easily understand that the dark shadow can be seen as beeing ahead of the plane, if the invisible thin cloudlayer below is much closer to the ground.
BUT...no way that the dark line would be able to be seen any other side of the plane than west, to the right of the white line, given the height and direction of the sun of the sun as I described.
So I do have to consider the possibility of you having an agenda here....
You seem very eager to deny the possibility of dark trails, without any discussion.
