It's been fairly shitty, so far.

My Mom is laid up in bed with some kinda chest infection, coughing all the time, I had to cook most of the Christmas lunch, and my deaf Dad (who refuses to use the hearing-aid my brother bought for him) is glued to the fucking TV, like a braindead asshole.

At least, we're in a nice house, with no money worries.

There's always something to be thankful for.

I'm drinking Scotch whisky, and posting at GLP. Does it get any better than that?

well gifts are important, but we didn't get any. No tree or anything for me and my kids. only desperate poverty and an eviction notice. Im a christian too. Seem to be last on Jesus' list of snappy christians He cares about. unable to support my little family on my cashier pay. This is the fourth year with no gifts for us. We've no where to go when they come to throw us out...again. No plan B for this situation. I can only think to lock myself in the bathroom and hope I can off myself before they break the door down. :/

that is a permanent solution to a temporary problem, and yes, four years or even five is temporary

personally i can't identify with the christian thing, but i would guess at the heart of it is, getting out of ones self, and thinking of others, no matter how bad you have it, someone else has it worse
although your situation does seem pretty bad, i have to admit

there is always a way out though, and it always starts with attitude

I fully agree.. samething over here. I very late put up the tree. Was late in making the xmas dinner. Not much about the xmas music also. And last but not least, very little thoughts about lord Jesus... And on the t.v. here the ufo stories are building up after a long time of silence . Oh oh oh now what are we going fore ? Odd.
I kinda lost interest in it all. Never felt that before.

Yep...seems others feel the same way too...neighbors that used to put on tons of decorations in and around their houses are toned down this year....they say "Merry Christmas" like an after thought...

Thanks, my man! And a Merry Christmas to you, and yours.

My parents are old, but still functional, most of the time, so it's nowhere near as bad as I might have implied.

They're OK, I'm OK, and I hope you are, too!

God Bless!

Ya, I noticed it about a week ago. Its like I really like to give my son gifts even though he is an adult now and all moved out of the house but I agree. The Christmas spirit was not here this year. I felt it from everyone around me. Something left.

Re: So how many others feel that this christmas did not even feel like christmas?
Got both grandmas living with me this year, one's barely there (alzheimers, with about a 15 second memory span, and retina's pretty much pulled off the back of her eye, so she's all but blind), and the other's had a number of really minor strokes, so while she's physically okay, she's a veritable mental train-wreck most of the time.

Doesn't help what's left of my already dicey holiday spirit...add in the usual insane family members, shake and stir...lol

Ah well, just have to do a little clean-up now, and remove decorations in a couple days, and back to the same ol', same ol'...

Actually, it's not as bad as that sounds, I'm just not much of a holiday person, and this year's been interesting, because everybody's just here because they're supposed to be, and because it might be the last time with both the current grandmas. Has more of the "chore" feeling than fun holiday spirit to it this year than others in the past.

i can't say it sucked for me AT ALL because me and mine keep it low key every year.

i do think, however, that it sucked for A LOT of people who are used to going ape shit over spending and decorating and partying.

I DID NOTICE THAT OUR CITY STREETS HAD LITTLE-TO-ZERO HOLIDAY DECORATIONS. IT DIDN'T AND DOESN'T LOOK LIKE CHRISTMAS AT ALL OUT THERE. EVEN THE MALL KEPT IT TONED DOWN. It made it easier for me to deal with cuz I don't like the holidays.

Very true..I wouldnt even know it was Christmas if it wasnt for the tv saying so..I've had a lot of personal loss so that is my reason but how can anyone be in the mood when all you hear is another depression is coming..and we as a people are alot different than the people that went through it in the 30's..we'll never make it..and tptb know this...09 is going to be a year for the records if the records arent vaporized.

The joy was gone here. The gifts were wonderful, family got together, but something's missing....

I'll figure out what "it" is, about mid-May.

I admire you for caring for your family. They are lucky to have you also.
This will sound strange but enjoy your grandmas while you have them. I never knew my grandparents, and always missed that. Plus, you will know in your heart you did the right thing.

My small (3) family all has health problems, and I see that I will be left alone soon. It sucks.

Every day is a holiday and every meal a feast.

It doesn't really matter how much you have on one day the "powers that be" tell you that you have to celebrate.

Make your own "holidays" and celebrate with friends and family when you are able.
