Does anyone know why regular marijuana use stops me from having dreams?

I smoke daily too, and I never used to remember my dreams.

Then I started remembering them again just like that.

Dream supression during cesation of cannabis usage is common, its due to the seratonin levels which cannabis affects.

I'd say check out Steven Laberge and learn to lucid dream. Whenever I stop smoking for a while, I am usually thrilled by my dreams. Learn to control them!

Maybe it has more to do with remembering your dreams than not having them..?

Not the same for all smokers, though.

Keep a little book and pencil by the bed and write down yor dreams as soon as you wake up, at least what you can remember. Eventually your recall will improve and may even go lucid.

I don't smoke and I haven't had a dream in over 5 years except after taking something. Anyone have any suggestions on how to have them?

Marijuana is a depressant. It disables some of the chemnicals in your brain so the nuerons don't fire proprely, very similar to alcohol.

When I smoked often (several times a week) I would never remember my dreams. Now that I only do it once a month or so, I have vivid dreams every night, including the night I smoke pot. I like it much more this way, as I greatly look forward to each dream I have.

Drinking makes me have some pretty sweet dreams, but I do it in moderation.

Smoke it long enough and you won't be able to remember what you were thinking about one second ago.

Smoking pot destroys your creative thinking which is necessary for dreaming. It also squelches your ambition and drive which is also needed to be active in the dream world. So while you sleep you are just a zombie sack of vapours.

Dreaming takes place during certain types of sleep "states".

I forget at the moment what they call the dream states, but anyway when you smoke grass you just don't go into those type of "states" as often or as long.

I think you are actually in a much deeper "state" of sleep when smoking pot.

The dream "state" is much closer to being awake.

Hellz no. Not true in my realm at least. I'm all depending on my creativity being an independent TV producer and all. Pot is God's gift to humanity and everything in moderation etc. I wouldn't have achieved what I did without my doobious revelations

When I was drinking way too much, part of it was because it killed my dreams. I was going through this odd phase where I'd dream about something, a real vivid dream, usually about something fairly mundane, and sure enough, a couple days later it would play out, maybe 15-30 seconds of deja vu.

Got to be annoying. I mean, it was useless stuff, and that was annoying, but it was getting to be a regular thing, and I kept having a fear that I'd dream something horrible, and it would happen.

Obliviousness is terribly tempting...

But I got over it, and thankfully, those dreams are more rare today. Sometimes I wish I would have let it play out, but I'd have a dream that was a little less vivid, and a bit more worrisome, and it didn't do much for my peace of mind.

Of course, that was long before I came to embrace the doom!

i don't have dreams anymore but then i go to bed to sleep, not dream so it's not a big deal and by the way i burn every day.

Oh, man, I have to jump in here. Mary Jane didn't have anything to do with it for me. I believe there are like several zillion factors involved in a question like that. And here: Do you you really NOT dream, or do you just not remember? Who TF knows?

For me, what I noticed is that when I got rid of the allergen/sensitivity crap, started dreaming again. Or remembering dreams.
