GAS line explosion TX
There has been a gas line explosion in north Hopkins county. One person has been seriously injured and has been taken to Parkland Hospital by air medical with burns to his face and hands.

This happened about 10:30 in the North Hopkins Community, just a few miles north of Sulphur Springs.

The Sheriff's department tells us there is an evacuation of the area of County road 4766 underway right now because the gas, something called "H2S" gas, is very volatile, and explosive.

We're told a crew was working in the area this morning when the rupture to the 8-inch line occurred.

Crews are now letting the gas burn off.

Re: GAS line explosion TX
Hydrogen Sulfide, nasty stuff.

Highly flammable. May form explosive mixture with air. Note wide explosive limits. Incompatible with strong oxidizing agents, many metals. May react violently with metal oxides, copper, fluorine, sodium, ethanal.

Toxicology

Highly toxic - may be fatal if inhaled. Inhalation of a single breath at a concentration of 1000 ppm ( 0.1% ) may cause coma. Corrosive when moist. Skin contact may cause burns. There is a rapid loss of sense of smell on exposure to gas concentrations above 150 ppm, and this means that the extent of exposure may be underestimated. Perception threshold ranges from 0.5 ppt to 0.1 ppm. Irritant. Asphyxiant.

Hi evil,

Couple days before x-mass i called the fire dept and reported a rotten eggs smell that almost put me on my butt as i went outside ta put trash out.

It was very strong(eyes were burning)as the winds were shifting it was hard ta get a handle on where it was coming from, they never did give any info of what it was.

Im in south kaufman co.texas and we have lots of gas pipeline running all over the area.

Back a few years ago(before i moved in the area)one of those pipelines blew and killed several folks just about half mile from me.

Re: GAS line explosion TX
A gas line explosion in north Hopkins county has now been capped, that's according to officials at the scene.

One person was seriously injured and had to flown to Parkland Hospital by air medical with burns to his face and hands. We're told a crew was working in the area when the rupture to the 8-inch line occurred about 10:30 Tuesday morning.

Earlier, the Sheriff's department told us they were ordering an evacuation of the area of County road 4766 because the gas, something called "H2S" gas, is very volatile, and explosive. It turns out, no one lived in close enough proximity of the leak to be threatened
