Hitndahedfred User ID: 826012 United States 03/25/2010 12:12 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Platinum and gold alloy Quoting: Anonymous Coward 2529Put into a clean crucible 7 1/2 drs. of pure gold and when perfectly melted, throw in 1/2 a dr. of platinum. The 2 metals will combine intimately forming an alloy rather whiter than pure gold, but remarkably ductile and elastic; it is also less perishable than pure gold or jeweller's gold; but more readily fusible than that metal. These excellent qualities must render this alloy an object of great interest to workers in metals. For springs, where steel cannot be used, it will prove exceedingly advantageous. It is a curious circumstance, that the alloy of gold and platinum is soluble in nitric acid, which does not act on either of the metals in a separate state. It is remarkable, too, that the alloy has very nearly the color of platinum, even when composed of 11 parts of gold to 1 of the former metal. Soluble eh??? No thanks Each time a person stands for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he or she sends forth a tiny ripple of hope. And crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance. Few are willing to embrace the disapproval of their fellows, the censure of their colleagues, the wrath of their society. Moral courage is a rarer commodity than bravery in battle or great intelligence. Yet it is the one essential vital quality for those who seek to change a world that yields most painfully to change. I only learned this AFTER i came into $ (inheritance). When you don't have money you want to appear like you do (hence flashy cars & jewelry). When you do have real money you want to preserve it and save. i make a modest salary and i would never flash my true wealth with jewelry. my spouse feels the same way. we are savers. but we live a very comfortable life. |

He inquired very nicely for help and mostly he gets misogynistic responses. I hope you find what you need and I hope you have a terrific life with your bride to be. |

monarch rebel Keeping an "eye out" for the truth. User ID: 844228 United States 03/26/2010 02:00 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | She is not being bossy; most straight men don’t have a clue about women’s jewelry and she knows this. At least she is giving you some ideas and doesn’t expect you to read her mind. Unfortunately, I don’t think what she is asking for exists in a commercial market. (I could be wrong, but you tickled my curiosity and I was unable to find it.) I would personally recommend platinum, as it is more resistant to scratches than 18kt gold, especially if she does a lot of work with her hands or is the outdoor type. Go to ebay and search wedding bands and look at them with her to get a better idea of what she likes and what you like as well. Hopefully she will wear the ring with pride the rest of her life, so you have every reason to make sure that she is happy with your choice and you with hers. Best wishes, and congratulations.
