And in general and in truth...WE ALL DIE YOUNG..In this place... But that is a whole other explanation.. "Pray for solace..Pray for resolve..Pray for a savior..Pray for deliverance..Some kind of purpose..A glimpse of a LIGHT in this VOID OF EXISTENCE..Now witness the END of an age..Hope dies in hands of believers..Who seek the truth in the LIAR'S EYE" "The greatest TRICK the Devil ever pulled was not convincing the world he doesn't exist..But convincing it that he is GOD" "I have no pleasure in any man who despises music. It is no invention of ours: It is a gift of GOD. I place it next to theology. Satan hates music: He knows how it drives the EVIL spirit OUT of US." - Martin Luther "What have I done?..Where have I come from?..When I burnt the backs with the SUN through a GLASS..Did I SEAL the loss that's become me?.. Feeling undone..What have I become? ..When I turned my back on you..I turned my back on MYSELF and became this MACHINE" "What you IGNORE now..Will come OUT of YOU later" "Stones to throw at my Creator.. MASOCHISTS to which I cater..You don't need to bother..I don't need to be..I'll keep slipping farther.. But once I hold on..I won't let go 'til it BLEEDS" |

I know many musicians that are still alive and some good ones that succumbed to the pleasures...I myself did a lot of partying and should have been dead while touring..however, musicians know this is part of the lifestyle. Now, they can choose how to live, but many figure they only get 10 good years anyway..also, many are dealing with bi-polar and while creative have to struggle with the "NORMAL" balance everyone else seems to have. Some, only see themselves as an extension of their instrument or pen. Sad..but true...when I had to stop playing I wanted to die and cursed GOD..hated everything, everyone and myself. So, although everyone is different, it usually comes down to delving into parts of the mind that others do not want to face...more often than not a lot of us are depressed and when the show is over..it is OVER if you know what I mean. I used to believe that going out while on top was the best thing..but having lost quite a few friends to drugs and other things on the road...I don't agree..although for some..it was the choice they made. |

Well thanks, that's the most well thought out reply so far, and it does make sense! I just wonder why there are plenty of junkies and drunks who manage to live long lives and have successful careers...and why the ones who don't make it become so popular to the point of nearly deification. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 512611 United States 12/31/2008 09:08 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Hendrix, Joplin, Morrison, Cobain, Staley...anyone else thinks TPTB are doing this to send a message that the 'rock n roll lifestyle' is dangerous and deadly? Maybe a good way to turn people off of being musicians. If you live past 27 and you're not already a martyred rockstar, then your time as an artist has passed. Or so they would have you think. They are trying to suppress your creative drive. And scare you away from expanding your mind. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 582958I have thought about this so many times. I don't think it's coincidence. TPTB eliminate not only people who are a threat, but also people who are a potential threat. It really makes me sad to think about all the amazing people the Human Race has lost. |

They just had to say no. It's like when you see a fat person and they don't know how to lose weight. How about 'let's not put that slice of chocolate cake in your mouth' - that would be a good start. |

I believe the opposite is the case, I think they would've made even better music if they were in full focus of their faculties - but we will never know that for sure. I mean, I don't smoke, I'm not a boozer, and I don't do drugs, but I have a huge passion for psychedelic music, and writing too. It is possible to write mind-altering music without actually going there and messing yourself up in the process. Kurt I think had a valid excuse for his junkie lifestyle - he had a terrible stomach problem that doctors couldn't fix - so heroin was his only relief, so I can't really fault him for that. But the others, Hendrix, Joplin, Morrison etc, they didn't need to stay on the path they took. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 11118 United States 12/31/2008 10:15 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Jim didn't write Light My Fire. Robbie Kreiger wrote most of it, Ray Manzarek came up with the organ riff, Jim contributed some of the second verse and that was it. Jim disliked the song himself and hated performing it. I think that kind of thing really happens. Parasites attach themselves to a rising star and live an almost effortless and luxuriant existence. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 11118from Wikipedia: "The song was largely written by Robby Krieger, and credited to the entire band. " from rolingstone.com: "It was the first song Krieger ever wrote -- with additional lyrics from Morrison and arrangement ideas from the rest of the band. "It's like I'd saved up all the things in my mind until that time and had the chance to get it out all at once," Krieger told ROLLING STONE." from songfacts.com: "Most of the lyrics were written by Doors guitarist Robbie Krieger. He wanted to write about one of the elements: fire, air, earth, and water. Jim Morrison wrote some of the second verse, and Ray Manzarek came up with the organ intro." I would safely conclude this was Robbie's baby, not Jim's. Jim didn't even like the song. |
