Like a kid, hearing a clue or key word, he'd jump in and starts telling a story about something that is related, even if barely related. Most stories are OK, sometimes just about mandane things (like his recent operation). He'll get this mysterious smile on his face as though telling 'guess what I am about to tell you'.... Quoting: ANOMALIAI've heard the same stories over and over (we are close), and it's always told the same way, with the same pauses and intonations...person thinks he is really entertaining everyone. Sometimes he'd throw in a new twist to get story sounding more 'entertaining'... And he hates to be interrupted as though he doesn't want his story structure and flow be reshuffled.... The person acts like a 12 years old (want to impress everyone), but he is almost 50. What would prompt someone to be like this? Any opinions? It means he is Italian. All humans see theirselves as the center, and they are right. But some forget others are also in the center. He probably really believes that you want to hear the stories....he can't help it. People get so much confirmation that they and the story about them is important. We all believe in the story to a certain amount, some get lost...same disease tho. If you don't tell stories because you are modest, you fell for the modest fantasy. Same thing again. |

Maybe he is insecure... I sort of tend to gravitate to men who have self-assurance about them, leaders, who tell things only when they need, not to impress others like some annoying cacadoo... But I can't really say anything, because it seems that this is this person's core...If he hasn't got it by his 50s, he'll probably never get it. And he is not a good listener either... It's like when you tell him something sad, he can't wait for you to finish so he could tell a similar story skipping the compassion part... |

It's like when you tell him something sad, he can't wait for you to finish so he could tell a similar story skipping the compassion part... this is what a friend of mine said about personalities like that: they need to talk because no one listens to them. I have time, I can't give a lot but I can give my time. So I listen for a few minutes, what is that to me? And I don't have so much to say that I need to get it out that moment anyhow. She is a wonderful friend and a wise woman and I have tried to adopt that attitude ever since. "From that time Jesus began to preach and say, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." I had an uncle who would keep talking even if you walked out of the room. I had a "friend" who would keep talking even if I set down the phone, went to get the mail, talked to my kids, and when I would come back, she was still talking and never even noticed that my ear was gone! People would literally hide from her in a store, if they saw her. I never figured out why some people are overtalkers. Is it a psychological illness? If anyone here is an overtalker, why do you do it? |

What did you learn about yourself OP? Are you insatiable? When we are healed and whole we are not triggered by the being of others. Perhaps your soul is asking you to integrate 'patience of a saint' or 'unconditional love' ? Only you know what you learned from the experience. It's more about a show. |

It's more about a show. I see what you mean. Sometimes, I do feel like people "have a bigger and better" story. I have a hard time relating to people like that, and usually opt out of the relationship/friendship. I hardly ever explain the reasons why, because sometimes I just don't express myself very well....without making the person feel unvalued. They are usually the defensive type. |
Sana User ID: 494870 Canada 01/01/2009 12:36 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Perhaps this person's life is so uneventful or stagnant, (by choice or circumstance), for so long that they've adapted by repeating or repackaging old news to any and all who'll listen. Sounds like they're hungry for attention, and deeper yet, something to fill the void. Maybe you could be one who helps, whatever way you choose that to be. My old man yells at me 'You should listen to my 51 years of experience!', but really it's one year of experience, repeated 51 times. |

I believe it came from my need to be liked, and from fear of people and people's reactions. I was insecure then. It was always surface, I didn't dig deep. I'd bounce serious issues with jokes/stories, never really feeling them deep through...Maybe because I couldn't deal with the issues...I don't know. Then life threw me around quite a lot since then, and I just didn't have any more energy to extend on constant CHAT BRAT sessions... I was exactly like this person, but he is in his late 40s'-50s. |

While they talk they learn NOTHING. Why do you think we were given 2 ears, 2 eyes, and only one mouth They can only talk, when you provide the silence for his words, no one would talk when no one listnens. It's like blaming the sun it burned your skin. Everything you experience, is made possible by you only. And the more you irritate, the more you hate them for pretending to be bigger then you. If you understand, it wouldn't upset you. |
