You guys are freaking me out! Herpes is a very general "disease"! Yes cold sores are a type of herpes but you can have cold sores and never suffer genital herpes! I've had cold sores since I can remember, but I DO NOT have genital herpes! Who cares if I have this little bump on my lip twice a year! I know how it works, I don't kiss anyone, forget about oral sex and I'm not sharing anything I am eating or drinking with! It's not that bad... the contagious phase only lasts about 3 days! And then, you just have to wait for the scar to go away... I usually get rid of my cold sores within a week! So stop freaking about the fact that some celebrities have one once in a while! IT'S NORMAL! Who cares!

This thread is so sad and so awesome at the same time. I got herpes from a guy I dated for over a year then found out he knocked up another woman... Yes I was a fool to have been so blind, but I was not a dirty whore out having unprotected sex with strangers. When I got my first 'outbreak' the bastard tried to say it was from me shaving myself... after being diagnosed wit HSV2 I remembered there was once I was going down on him and he had a scab... when I asked what it was he said he had caught himself in his zipper.. yeah not so much...

Anyways its been 4 years since then and I have had some great relationships, 1 of which told me he had HSV first and another who didn't tell me until I had told him... but he wasn't even going to tell me because he had it for so long he longer had symptoms! DO not be fooled if you think that jus because you don't have symptoms that its not going to spread... the virus is active before and after it shows/feels its appearance.

PS for the 100th time those of you who don't get it. HSV1 is USUALLY oral and HSV2 is USUALLY genital but either can affect oral or genital depending on what the sexual acts are being done..

That's crazy I have HSV2 as well just like you I contracted it from a guy I was dating. I didn't find out I contracted the virus until last year inn September. He also got a girl pregnant as well and left me to start a family with her. When I told him I had herpes he tried to throw it off on me and act as if he didnt what I was talking about. These last 4.5 month have been taking a toll on me I feel that I don't have any one to talk, I worry all the time. Not to mentioned I dont know how to approach the topic if I want to start a relationship with someone in the future. I still haven't figure out how to control my outbreaks. So do you have any advice? :-/

You guys don't seem to know what you're talking about. Most people with herpes (simplex 1 or 2) don't ever know they have it. It's extremely common among adults, and most people who have it get it as children before they're ever sexually active. Most likely, a lot of you reading this have herpes simplex and are simply unaware. Most STD checks do not even look for herpes unless it's symptomatic because all it does is freak people out.

Chicken pox are caused by herpes zoster virus, which also causes shingles... not the same as cold sores or herpes simplex. There's a slew of other herpes viruses out there. Just wikipedia "Herpesviruses" and it'll list 'em out.

This person is wrong. Don't take his advice. Herpes simplex 1 (HSV-1) and Herpes simplex-2 (HSV-2) are both common. There are also many other types of herpesviruses which are not what we colloquially refer to as 'herpes'... aka you should not go around saying that chickenpox or shingles are 'herpes' because that is not the common meaning of the word.

Since I was forced to become a lowly human, I have had chicken pox pie, measeles, whooping cough, a managerie of flu's, scabies, shingles and a desire to become rich and famous.

Some people are so ignorant. Most common STD checks do not screen for herpies, so anyone that says that they are "Clean" can be very mistaken. Get a real thorough (Sp ?) STD check and specify that you want to check for EVERYTHING beyond standard testing. Then if you get a "Clean Bill of Health," then, you can through stones. But just remember, it's lonly at the top. There are only 10% of people in the USA who have nothing, including cleragy, elderly, and everyone thereafter. After you get tested, if you want to gaurentee that you never get anything, consider celebacy. Make sure everyone else you touch gets tested. Then get them tested again in 3 weeks after you are 100% sure they haven't done anything with anyone in that time. Hummm. It's tough to be so perfect.
