Two others would be Hypoxia and Radon. Just google Tinnitus and add another possibility. You will see how very diverse a symptom it is. It is like a headache, many things are linked to headaches. I am more interested in what % of the population globally currently has it. If it is very bad and this is something that has been new since, say 2001 I would think that would be indicaqtive of many things. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 19003 Australia 01/06/2009 09:57 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Ops a guessing dumbass [link to en.wikipedia.org] Vitamin B12 is found in foods that come from animals, including fish, meat, poultry, eggs, milk, and milk product. This is my main diet, still have ringing in ears, and i also take a multi-vitamin. I would hedge my bets the following treatments would cure it. Treatment [link to en.wikipedia.org] There are many treatments for tinnitus that have been claimed, with varying degrees of statistical reliability: Objective tinnitus: * Gamma knife radiosurgery (glomus jugulare)[19] * Shielding of cochlea by teflon implant[20] * Botulinum toxin (palatal tremor)[21] * Propranolol and clonazepam (arterial anatomic variation)[22] * Clearing ear canal (in the case of e.g. earwax plug)[23] Subjective tinnitus: * Drugs and nutrients o Ginkgo Biloba o Lidocaine, injection into the inner ear found to suppress the tinnitus for 20 minutes, according to a Swedish study.[24] o Benzodiazepines (lorazepam, clonazepam) o Avoidance of caffeine, nicotine, salt[25][26][27] o The consumption of alcohol has been found to both increase and decrease the severity of tinnitus. Therefore, alcohol's effect on the severity of tinnitus is dependent on the causes of the individual's affliction and cannot be considered a treatment.[28][27] o Zinc supplementation (where serum zinc deficiency is present)[29][30][31] o Acamprosate[32] o Etidronate or sodium fluoride (otosclerosis)[33] o Lignocaine or anticonvulsants (usually in patients responsive to white noise masking)[34] o Carbamazepine[35] o Melatonin (especially for those with sleep disturbance)[36] o Sertraline[37] o Vitamin combinations (Lipoflavonoid)[38] * Electrical stimulation o Transcranial magnetic stimulation or transcranial direct current stimulation[39][40] o Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation[41] o Direct stimulation of auditory cortex by implanted electrodes[42] o Berthold Langguth, German neurologist would apply an electric or magnetic current for stimulation over the head of the patient to reduce ringing sound. Dirk De Ridder, Belgian neurosurgeon implanted electrodes to the brain of sufferers to normalise overactive neurons. Cambridge scientists also found that lidocaine, an anaesthetic reduces the sound in 2/3 of patients for 5 minutes, but it needs another drug to suppress its dangerous effects.[43] * Surgery o Repair of perilymph fistula[44] * External sound o The Neuromonics Tinnitus Treatment, introduced first in Australia now in the US.[citation needed] o Low-pitched sound treatment has shown some positive, encouraging results.(UC, Irvine press release) o Tinnitus masking[45] (white noise, or better 'shaped' or filtered noise[46] o Tinnitus retraining therapy[47][48] o Auditive stimulation therapy (music therapy)[49] o Compensation for lost frequencies by use of a hearing aid.[50] o Ultrasonic bone-conduction external acoustic stimulation[51][52] o Avoidance of outside noise (exogenous tinnitus)[53] * Psychological o Cognitive behavioral therapy[54] * Light-based o Photobiomodulation (a.k.a. Low Level Laser Therapy); efficacy is debated[55] |

It can be caused by boatloads of stuff. So many things cause tinnitus that a lost of insurance agency's won't even cover it. Mine is cause by TMJ. My jaw is so jacked it inflames the main audio nerve behind the joint causing my left ear and even a little in the right to emit a crazy loud ring sometimes and a very noticable one almost constantly. My friend Dave Shaffer has it so bad from hearing damage he has to leave work sometimes to cope with it. SO FUCK YOU! |

TXGal4Truth User ID: 864252 United States 03/22/2010 10:56 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Why would so many people get a B-12 deficiency at the same time? I take B12 and other vitamins every day and I still hear it. Quoting: Psychic SoldierProbably the same reason many people have pain in their bones before it rains, a storm, etc, and some don't. I am one of those, as are many people in my family. We all take a daily multi vitamin, but it still never fails. My youngest gets it the strongest. We don't even have to check the forecast, if she says her bones hurt we KNOW it's going to rain. :) So have I now become your enemy for telling you the TRUTH? I find methyl b12 better than cyanocobalamin, and its better to take with intrinsic factor, or get the shots or nasal spray rather than regualar pills.. you can dissolve it under your tongue but i dont find that as effective either i found it by accident 2 years ago when my tinnitus stopped. coq10 parasite cleanses and candida cleanses help too wouldnt hurt to through in a cal/mag.. i like orotate. I thought mine was TMJ.. but nope.. vitamin deficiency. (mercury induced degranged mineral transport) |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 923141The list of symptoms provided in the second post are accurate. I can testify to this personally. The only thing that has not improved for me is the ringing. The docs don't have a clue why the ringing persists. |
