The League of Nations approved the British Mandate of Palestine with the intent of creating a "national home for the Jewish people." In 1947, the United Nations approved the partition of Palestine into two states, one Jewish and one Arab. The land mass was divided, 56% in favor of the Jews, when the population was roughly 3:1 in favor of Arabs. And the Arabs did not agree, it was decided for them by the UN, so much for equitable democratic decisions based on those who would be affected. I don't think any leader could accept those terms. By the end of World War II, Jews accounted for 33% of the population of Palestine. The land was divided into two approximately equal portions. It wasn't decided for them. They refuse to negotiate anything but total and complete takeover and destruction of the Jews. Your right, no leader would accept those terms. Which is why they needed UN intervention. The British hoped to establish self-governing institutions in Palestine. The Jews were alarmed by the prospect, which would have an Arab majority. However, the Arabs would not accept proposals for such institutions if they included any Jews at all, and so no institutions were created. The Arabs wanted as little as possible to do with the Jews and the mandate, and would not participate in municipal councils, nor even in the Arab Agency that the British wanted to set up. It depends on whether they (the Palestinians), had faith in any institution that could make a ruling so self evidently unfair. The UN failed. As a result, the reaction demonstrated the lack of belief of any fair resolutions. Both parties haven't been able to come to any terms, which is why the Muslims and Jews are embroiled in war. It's also a question of autonomy which the Pal's have seen little of. |

It seems to revolve around the Old City, which itself seems to revolve around the Temple Mount. The Old City is divided into four quarters - Jewish, Arab, Christian and Armenian, It's as if everyone has claimed their corner. The Wall itself seems like a dividing line between civilizations. The Muslims up top often throw rocks down on the worshipping Jews. Eventually the Jews get hacked off and send police up to chase them off. Only secular Jews are allowed up on the Mount as it is considered to be desecrated at the moment. The Jews have actually excavated tunnels alongside the Wall so they can get closer to the Holy of Holies. There are amazing prayer rooms down there, only 100m from the Rock. |

You people are on this thread spattering back and forth like a bunch of primitive hyenas. None of you know what you're talking about. You've never thought for yourselves. You are conditioned to believe what you've been taught, what you've been conditioned and raised in, what your schools taught you, what your televisions "teach" you. No questions asked, just sides taken. If we could lay all this down. Our pompous "i know all" attitudes, maybe for fuck's sake the world would be nicer. Think about this: if you had no name if you had no history if you had no books if you had no family if it were only you naked on the grass who would you be then? |

| G. House User ID: 788589 11/18/2012 08:05 AM ![]() Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Israel has one tiny little sliver of land surrounded by huge Arab nations. And this doesn't even include the Holy site where the Dome of the Rock is, which was built on top of the Jewish Temple the Palestinians destroyed. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 525589The British gave them this land. They didn't take it. However, they were forced to defend it from the very beginning....this little bitty sliver....but that's not good enough. Muslims believe they have no right to exist - their lives are nothing, on any land. People get manipulated by the fury of the Muslim hatred that daily wages the biggest smear campaign ever seen. Don't fall for it. Especially if you are a Christian - the Bible says very clearly in Genesis that it was Isaac that was the promised son and therefore the land was given by God to his descendants - the Jewish people. THAT is what they're fighting over and have been for almost 3000 years. The Jewish people follow the Old T. and the Muslims follow the Koran. The biggest difference to me, besides that I believe the Bible, which was written first btw, is that Jews don't say Muslims don't have a right to exist. The Jewish people defend their right to exist. The Jewish people are the ones on the defense, constantly. It wasn't the Brits to give. Using that logic... it wasn't the Roman's to take away. So basically the so-called Palestinians took stolen land to begin with. FACT... the Jewish people that were living in Palestine at the time of Independence in 1947 BOUGHT and paid for the land they had. It is pointless to discuss this though, most pro so-called Palestinian cause hypocrites have no real grasp of the history of the area, or any desire to learn it. "Everybody lies." |
