Any trailor park people here? What is it REALLY like?
I've never lived in a trailor park before.
I have visited people in them, and some of the neighbors seemed a little goofy, and maybe more "neighborly"-than in other kinds-of neighborhoods. (seemed like the neighbors do like to hang-out and drink beer etc.) but nothing like what I see on the tv-show COPS, or anything like that.
For economic reasons, living in a trailor park for a year or so makes sense for me.
How bad could it be?
Does television & media portray mobile homes badly because tptb want people to spend more $$ on rent???
Sadly, my children are snobs, but they are grown & I'm getting tired of them anyhow.
If they want to live in a 'rich" neighborhood"-they can pay their own rent.

It's fucking paradise. I can run around in my vintage 1984 Motley Crue shirt without a bra, I have a femullet and get to wear all the blue eyeshadow I want!

The best part is I don't have to waste any of my foodstamps on toothpaste because I don't have teeth (which makes me very popular with the El Camino driving guys, if you know what I mean).

I have a double-wide trailer, out front I'm on the sofa wearing my snuggie... It's awesome.
Well it seems so real I can see it
And it seems so real I can feel it
And it seems so real I can taste it
And it seems so real I can hear it
So why can't I touch it?
So why can't I touch it?

OMG...

I did take a walk on the impoverished side.

It is about big dogs in tiny spaces. It is about the culture of alcoholism. It gives new meaning to the term desperate housewives.

It is about not having much shelter from pigs on the wing.

However, even though the old ones were essentially made out pressboard, that is cornflakes to you if it gets wet.

It is still a lot less toxic that the "modular home" construction materials which in a central air and sealed up environment are found to be constructed of toxic materials.

(The wood is not truly wood, it is a mixture of immature trees, glue, and cow urine and found to off gas)

So, old houses are most definitely the way to good. Back when wood was really wood and a poisonous substance.

Eh.. It's a roof over your head, not a cardboard box, and CHEAP! I have never lived in one, but I concur that it's not as bad as the public image would have it.

This woman I worked with was close to retirement, lived in a paid for trailer, and spent something like $300/month in park fees. Well, somehow she got it into her head that she "deserved" to live in a "real home", got a mortgage and bought a $350,000 house after blowing her nest egg for down payment and home improvements. (at the height of the housing bubble) Well... fast forward to today, she's broke, laid off, and trying to sell for what she paid for it.. LOL good luck!

Is she wishing she kept her trailer? You bet!

I do live in a trailer park. I live in a single wide trailer... a rental. Its peachy...

Here is my advice.

Mind your own business. Be ready for drugs. They will live next to you. Find one in a more rural area.

Trailer parks aren't bad for people that wouldn't be in the situation they are in if it were not for a bunch of evil fucks peddling their poison on this earth.Other then that it's allright.

Re: Any trailor park people here? What is it REALLY like?
Yep--about the drugs & booze, that is one thing that I worry about, even though I've lived in cities where you could reach into your next-door neighbor's house, something about trailor parks and neighbors getting very friendly-
So I'm thinking if I minded my own business and act polite but not too friendly, or even if I pretended to be over-religious against booze, (ha ha I wouldn't say I was in recovery, since that would be asking for trouble), maybe that would work?
The rent would be about one third of anywhere else-maybe if I found a no-children place it would be even better?

Yeah, it's called the "Julian, Bubbles, and Ricky Community Service Puppet Show" or some crazy shit like that. I really have no idea what to expect, but I'm going to be smoking a big one beforehand. Last year, Mr.Lahey and Randy came to our College and had a show at the bar. I think they did a short stand up thing and then just hung out and drank(I missed it..). I'll post a review of the live show after I get back later this month. That show is Canada's best kept secret.

It's cheap in comparison to renting a house. However, the less affluent tend to congregate in trailer parks.

There are usually drunks and druggies in trailer parks and if you spend more than two minutes talking to them, you're going to regret it, I did. They also tend to think they're tough guys.

Some aren't as bad as others, if it's hard to get into then the residents tend to stay longer, so it's a better place.

If you have to rent in a trailer park, get a trailer with a toilet.
Holy cow! It's the woowoo patrol!

Re: Any trailor park people here? What is it REALLY like?
My husband and I lived in a trailor park early on in our marriage. Even though it was located in the most upscale town in the county, it was NOT a pleasant experience.

The 300 pound single lady with 2 kids (and eventually got pregnant with her 3rd during the time we lived there) had 2 different guys of questionable character (0ne fresh out of prison) live with her at separate times. One day she found dog poop in her yard and assumed it was from our dog, even though the poop was way too big to belong to our dog. I don't know if it ever occurred to her that the poop might possibly have come from her rottweiler. Even so, she scooped it up and put it on a paper plate and left it on our front porch for us to find when we got home.

Then there were the alcoholics who lived across the street. We used to fondly refer to them as the "rednecks". Even though my husband and I tried to keep to ourselves as best we could, they still found ways to start crap with us. One of their favorite past times was sitting on their front porch, getting drunk and yelling nasty things to us. One time the woman came over to yell at us and was so drunk she could barely make it up the steps to our front porch. My husband said, "Maam, are you drunk?" and boy did she get pissed! We did get a break from her husband for awhile when he spent some time in jail for drunk driving.

And that was our experience in a trailor park. The only saving grace is that we had a nice wooded lot with a creek behind our house. We enjoyed watching all the different species of birds who liked to hang out there. I am so grateful that we live on 3 secluded acres in the country. I will never take that for granted.

Here in WV you will see quite a few trailor parks. It's only as bad as the person who runs it allows it to be. My father owns land and rents lots for trailors, 37 in all. It's well ran but I can understand where the perception comes from.
In an area like WV where changing jobs is common (coal mines), living in trailors is really the smart way to go. Until, that is, you have a job that is rather stable.
There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.

My bf's sister lives in an extra double-wide(the same sis who won all that money at the casinno), that is better than many homes I've seen. The thing has a corner lot, is very big, full working fireplace, huge master bath with a jacuzzi. Depends on what kind you get...and where you get it I guess.
