There are already statutory prohibitions against public smoking. 65% voted yes for a $100 civil fine that's the new law. The new civil law is working fine. Has any of these towns had a problem since this passed? How many people have they fined for smoking in public? Zero. So a law exists, was passed by a landslide, the new law is working but they want to change it? That's not democracy. If they want to change the law, they should at least garner a majority consensus. They don't have that. But we have 65% who voted for a $100 civil fine. I hear where you are coming from but the people voted. If they want to change it run and pass another ballot initiative like we did! |

How it fights eye disease. How it replaces "every" nerve pill and probably anti-depressent on the market. Allows cancer patients to have an appitite. I took some time to read up on the effects of marijuana and I couldn't find any nonsense about it stimulating brain cells to grow. I did find the following: Studies show that someone who smokes five joints per day may be taking in as many cancer-causing chemicals as someone who smokes a full pack of cigarettes every day. People who smoke marijuana often develop the same kinds of breathing problems that cigarette smokers have: coughing and wheezing. They tend to have more chest colds than nonusers. They are also at greater risk of getting lung infections like pneumonia. Animal studies have found that THC can damage the cells and tissues in the body that help protect people from disease. When the immune cells are weakened, you are more likely to get sick. [link to www.cannabisheaven.co.uk] Marijuana and the Mind: Marijuana has been found to affect the brains proper functioning as well as proper mental development of the user. Most notably marijuana affects the motivations of the user by chemically unbalancing the natural functions of the brain. The result can be seen by talking with marijuana users about changing their habit. Marijuana is no big deal, as long as they have it. Marijuana affects ambition and alters reality. Situations which are really vital to handle are not even seen. One couple addicted to marijuana had smoked through the woman's pregnancy and in the baby's same room during the baby's first year. The baby was under sized, unresponsive, dazed and had not attempted to crawl. Addiction and anti-social behavior later in life is common for babies of marijuana addicts. Despite these bad effects, the marijuana addicted couple had not recognized or acknowledged the affects of marijuana on their baby. |

Besides, it's not up to you or any other schmuck on the planet to decide what is healthy or unhealthy for an individual and I dare say that marijuana is definitely the least of my worries. "Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies, The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." ~ C.S. Anonymous Coward User ID: 558567 United States 01/17/2009 10:35 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | "Marijuana and the Mind: Marijuana has been found to affect the brains proper functioning as well as proper mental development of the user." Psychologists opinions' reflect the consciousness of their era. Give me a definition of "proper" mental functioning we can all accept, and I'll listen. Otherwise, the argument ranks as religion, not science. "Most notably marijuana affects the motivations of the user by chemically unbalancing the natural functions of the brain." False. Some % of users have their motivations increased. Simply by getting pain relief for some, for some, they would otherwise be borred and stuck in a situation they don't realize they can get out of, THC gives another perspective if used wisely... Think of all the people on SSRIs these days, even smoking sessation patients use welbutrin...all of these people are told that their brain chemistry is "unbalanced", but as to how SSRI's DO, they have no idea. There are always people who use things stupidly. Lord protect us all from these people, but alcohol is more socially destructive than da weed, any yet alcohol can be a jolly social lubricant. "Marijuana affects ambition and alters reality. Situations which are really vital to handle are not even seen." Define "reality" in a way we can all agree with, and show me that this reality is common to all people but missed by pot smokers...everybody in the store has a different brain and biochemistry and is on different brain effecting drugs, natural and unnatural. Everybody wears "blinders" of some kind. Some people never notice suffering. Some people notice the brand of your suit...I sure don't. I notice that they are assholes. |
