Why does CANADA spell words with extra "U"s???

It balances out the words that they pronounce with extra "U"s.

Because they're just crazy like that, eh?

The same reason you can't pronounce Brett Favres correctly.

Think you'll find those words are spelt that way in every english speaking country outside the US

All regional dialect. Where I come from our dialect is influenced by Finish,English,and French. I usualy get mistaken for a Canadian when I speak. eh lol

It's British spelling which Canada still uses. The US eliminated the extra u's because they thought it was redundant and confusing

I'm an Australian, how should I know? but I do know we had these Canadian chicks stay at our place a few weeks back, and that cliche' blonde hair and Canadian accent was sweet, sexy and delicious. Also they seemed like really nice happy people.

and somehow we have managed to fit right in between americans and english. we say aluminum, not aluminium, and we also know how to say nuclear, not nucular.

But seriously, you know that's the British spellings right? We've adopted the american organize instead of organise type words, but the -our instead of -or is the last to fade away under the crushing cultural influence of our hefty neighbours.

Those 'U"s are not extra. The Canadians spell words correctly. In the US when many immigrants from foreign places could not spell properly, they started to write things the way they thought they heard them. Incidentally the dropping of the "U" by Americans subtly alters the pronunciation of words. In the US they are so happy dropping letters and changing spellings from the original English that they have reduced ALUMINIUM to ALUMINUM. LABOUR to LABOR, COLOUR to COLOR etc. It makes it a bitch of a problem for me, because my spell checker is in American English, and I write British English.

The U.S. sold all it's extra u's in the great depression.
